John David Washington’s 10 Best Movies And TV Shows

John David Washington’s best movies and TV shows showcase his meteoric rise to fame, becoming a star in his own right. Washington was born July 28, 1984, in Los Angeles and is the son of legendary Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington. Despite the famous lineage, Washington has established a career of his own, which started on television with his standout role on the HBO sports series Ballers. However, that was just the beginning of his acting career, which, while relatively new, is already impressive.

Washington scored a Screen Actors Guild nomination for Best Actor for his breakout performance in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman and followed that up by becoming Christopher Nolan’s leading man in Tenet. Sharing the screen with acclaimed actors like Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, and Christian Bale, Washington has held his own, becoming a sought-after star in Hollywood with a long career ahead of him.

John David Washington stepped into a star-studded cast and held his own among some of the most acclaimed actors working today. Amsterdam is a period comedy from David O. Russell that stars Washington, Christian Bale, and Margot Robbie as a trio of friends who formed a strong bond during World War I and find themselves reuniting in America years later when they become embroiled in a plot orchestrated by an evil organization.

Amsterdam blends true elements in its story along with an absurd tone that makes it a bit of a mess overall. However, while the end result is disappointing considering the talent involved, there is still a lot of fun to be had. Washington is great as the confident and heroic Harold Woodsman, sharing wonderful chemistry with Bale and Robbie. The rest of the cast includes Oscar-winners like Robert De Niro and Rami Malek, comedy stars like Chris Rock and Mike Myers, and acclaimed character actors like Timothy Olyphant and Michael Shannon.

Before becoming a big name with the likes of BlacKkKlansman and Tenet, John David Washington got his first lead role in the drama Monsters and Men. Washington joins the likes of Anthony Ramos and Kelvin Harrison Jr. in the story of a police shooting of a young man during an altercation with police officers. With plenty of controversy in the aftermath of the killing, the movie examines the event from a variety of perspectives.

Washington is excellent at playing the inner conflict of the character, who is passionate about his stance, but continues to lose grip on those convictions.

Washington is given the most complex character in the ensemble as Dennis, a police officer who stands up for his fellow officers as his community continues to grow increasingly hostile towards the issues with law enforcement. Washington is excellent at playing the inner conflict of the character, who is passionate about his stance, but continues to lose grip on those convictions. It is a powerful drama that addresses real-world issues.

One year after Tenet, John David Washington continued to prove himself to be a gripping action hero in the Netflix action movie Beckett. The film stars Washington and Alicia Vikander as a couple on a vacation in Greece, only for tragedy to strike following a car accident. However, in the aftermath, Washington discovers that he has inadvertently stumbled upon a larger conspiracy, forcing him to go on the run from some dangerous people.

While Washington is impressive in the action sequences, he also brings a grounded nature to the lead role. He is not playing the lead role as an action hero but rather a scared and vulnerable man who finds himself fighting for his life. It makes for an exciting ride, even if it doesn’t offer anything too original to the “man on the run” genre.

John David Washington further cemented his status as a new Hollywood leading man by taking on the lead role in the epic sci-fi movie The Creator. The film takes place in the future after AI beings have gone to war with humanity in an attempt to gain their own freedom. Washington plays a soldier who is tasked with hunting down the new AI weapon that could change the war, only to discover it is seemingly a young child, making him second-guess his purpose.

From director Gareth Edwards, The Creator is an original sci-fi movie on a big budget, which is rare to see in modern Hollywood. Washington gets to the humanity of the story among all the impressive visual effects as the conflicted hero at the heart of the adventure. While The Creator was a box office bomb, it has continued to find an audience on streaming, proving that the bold sci-fi ideas strike a chord with some people.

Fans might not realize that before John David Washington’s successful movie career, he had an impressive football career. This background surely came in handy when it came to Washington’s breakout acting role in the HBO series Ballers. Dwayne Johnson lent his considerable fame to the series in a rare television role as Spencer Strasmore, a former NFL player who now operates as a financial manager for young football players who are just getting introduced to the work of wealth and fame.

Washington fits into the humor of the show as well as the more intense dramatic moments…

Washington had one of the standout roles on the series as Ricky Jerret, a competitive and passionate young football player. Washington fits into the humor of the show as well as the more intense dramatic moments, such as the storylines involving Ricky using performance-enhancing drugs. While the series was sometimes dismissed as Entourage in the sports world, it was a charming blend of the life of excess and the realities facing many of these athletes.

John David Washington teamed with another rising star in Hollywood for the intimate drama Malcolm & Marie. Washington stars in the movie as Malcolm, an up-and-coming director who has just returned home from the successful screening of his latest project. However, as he is ready to celebrate his achievement, his girlfriend Marie (Zendaya) expresses her unhappiness with being ignored as a part of that success, despite the fact that her painful past was partially the inspiration for Malcolm’s movie.

The two actors are the only ones on screen throughout this black-and-white drama, with the entire movie consisting of several heated conversations between the lovers. Zendaya gives an outstanding performance, but Washington is also key to the movie working. He handles the complicated character effectively, showcasing Malcolm’s ignorance and arrogance while also being sure not to make him an easy villain.

Despite the fact that he seemed to rise as a star in Hollywood quite quickly, John David Washington still appeared in projects in small supporting roles before becoming a leading man. The Old Man And The Gun is one of these earlier projects and one of the most charming crime movies you’re likely to find. Loosely based on a true story, Robert Redford stars as Forrest Tucker, a career criminal who escaped prison at the age of 70 and went on a string of bank robberies without using a gun and while maintaining a polite disposition.

Casey Affleck costars in the movie as the cop who is in pursuit of this unexpected criminal, while Washington adds some humor as his detective partner, Lt. Kelly. The film is a whimsical take on the crime genre as well as a meditation on age and life. It is further elevated by one of Redford’s best performances, which also supposedly marks his final role as a lead actor.

John David Washington’s most recent movie is also his best performance to date, showing a new side of his talents. The Piano Lesson is an adaptation of August Wilson’s play of the same name, set in 1936. Washington stars in the movie as Boy Willie, a young man who comes to Pittsburgh to visit his sister, Berniece (Danielle Deadwyler), and attempt to convince her to sell their family’s ancestral piano, which has dark ties to the past.

The movie is a family affair with Denzel Washington serving as producer, while it also serves as the directorial debut of John David’s brother Malcolm Washington. The result is an engrossing adaptation that brings the lyrical nature of Wilson’s writing to life in an effective way, along with the complex themes of the story. The Piano Lesson‘s cast is also a strong one, with Samuel L. Jackson, Ray Fisher, and Cory Hawkins also playing standout roles.

John David Washington took a big stride in Hollywood by landing the lead role in Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi action movie Tenet. Washington stars as the movie’s unnamed protagonist, who is recruited for a mission in which he is tasked with taking down an arms dealer who is using time travel to carry out his sinister plan. As Washington’s hero is introduced to the complex rules of this world, he begins to unravel a mystery in which he has already played a key role.

One of Nolan’s most complicated and intriguing movies, Tenet‘s ending makes the audience want to go back and watch it all over again to get a handle on the exciting sci-fi idea. Washington makes for a fun hero, bringing more humor and charm to the role than is usually seen in Nolan’s movies. He also leads a strong cast, including Kenneth Branagh, Elizabeth Debicki, and Robert Pattinson.

The movie that helped launch John David Washington’s movie career remains his best project to date. While Denzel Washington and Spike Lee collaborated on several iconic projects over the years, Lee recruited Denzel’s son to lead this crime story that is bizarrely based on a true story. BlacKkKlansman stars Washington as Ron Stallworth, an FBI agent working in 1970s Colorado who successfully managed to stage an undercover operation that infiltrated the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.

While the movie sounds like a wacky comedy, and does include a lot of dark humor, it is also a powerful look at racism in America and how little has changed over the decades. Washington comes into the leading role with a lot of confidence, carrying the movie alongside a memorable turn from Adam Driver. The result is a modern masterpiece and the movie that finally won Spike Lee his first Oscar for the movie’s screenplay.
