Kenny Chesney was born on March 26, 1968 in Knoxville, Tennessee, the son of David Chesney, a former elementary school teacher, and Karen Chandler, a hairstylist. Chesney grew up in Luttrell and is of English and Irish descent. He grew up with his sister, Jennifer Chandler. Chesney’s early love of music came from receiving a guitar as a Christmas gift. After graduating from Gibbs High School in 1986, he played baseball and football before attending East Tennessee State University to major in advertising. In 1989, he recorded a self-released demo album, Good Old Boy At Heart, and used the proceeds to buy a new guitar.
