Some of those unfamiliar with Lacey Chabert’s work over on the Hallmark Channel might be discovering her for the first time after watching her in Hot Frosty on Netflix, but Chabert is a certified Christmas movie queen. The actress has starred in countless holiday films over the years, mostly on the Hallmark Channel. However, some of Chabert’s roles in the movies are more memorable than others, making them stand out amongst the rest, which is a feat, given that the actress has appeared in more than 15 festive flicks.

Despite her tireless work on Christmas projects year after year, many will first recognize Chabert from her iconic role as Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls alongside Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, and Amanda Seyfried. Almost a decade following her breakthrough via the memorable 2000s chick flick, though, Chabert turned to Hallmark. Since the early 2010s, Chabert has made her mark in the world of Hallmark holiday (and non-holiday) films, and in 2024, she joined the Netflix Christmas movie universe.

Matchmaker Santa is one of Lacey Chabert’s first Hallmark Channel Christmas movies, and its nostalgia and stereotypical cheesy holiday film premise make it one of her best. It’s hard not to feel joy when watching the 2012 festive rom-com. Matchmaker Santa features predictable tropes, palpable chemistry, and Santa Claus (of course), but none of these are bad things (especially for those who love a good Hallmark film).

Hot Frosty, starring Lacey Chabert, includes a Mean Girls Easter egg, and further links the streaming service’s Chrismas movie universe.
In Matchmaker Santa, Chabert stars as Melanie Hogan. Melanie is a bakery owner and dating an insanely handsome CEO named Justin. So, everything in her life must be perfect, right? Wrong. Something feels off in her relationship with Justin, and Melanie starts to realize that when she starts spending a lot of time with her boyfriend’s best friend, Dean, over the holidays. A good, old-fashioned love triangle mixed with the magic of Christmas equals a thoroughly entertaining holiday affair in Matchmaker Santa. The film also features a couple of Hollywood icons — Florence Henderson and John Ratzenberger — making it all the better.

9 Pride, Prejudice, & Mistletoe
Release Date: November 23, 2018
As the title suggests, Pride, Prejudice, and Mistletoe is a take on the classic Jane Austen tale Pride and Prejudice. While it might not live up to other interpretations of Austen’s story (like Joe Wright’s 2005 Oscar-nominated film), it perfectly encapsulates Pride and Prejudice‘s spirit in the vessel of a cheesy Hallmark Christmas movie. Chabert stars as Darcy, a successful businesswoman who returns to her hometown, where she bumps into her former rival, Luke, played by Brendan Penny.
For those who absolutely adore the enemies-to-lovers trope in movies and TV (which
Pride and Prejudice
undoubtedly does best), Chabert’s
Pride, Prejudice, and Mistletoe
is the perfect Christmas movie.

As fate would have it, Darcy and Luke are forced to work together to plan a charity event. As time goes on, and they get to know one another better, one thing leads to another, and, all of a sudden, their hate turns into love. Hate and love are two sides of the same coin, after all. For those who absolutely adore the enemies-to-lovers trope in movies and TV (which Pride and Prejudice undoubtedly does best), Chabert’s Pride, Prejudice, and Mistletoe is the perfect Christmas movie.

Even though Hot Frosty is the latest installment in the Lacey Chabert Christmas movie universe (and as a result might suffer from some recency bias), it’s still one of her best. Perhaps on the outside, the 2024 fantasy rom-com might seem like one of Chabert’s most corny holiday flicks. A film about a snowman who comes to life and falls in love is bound to be cheesy, after all. However, by the end of Hot Frosty, it’s clear that it has a lot of heart and is deeper than anyone could have predicted.

Hot Frosty features tragedy and grief mixed with a whole lot of Christmas magic. For the most part, it’s a happy tale, but it has complex layers due to Kathy’s backstory and struggle to move on from her loss. Plus, Dustin Milligan is a delight as Jack in the cast of Hot Frosty — it’s hard not to smile when he’s on the screen.
7 Family For Christmas

Family for Christmas tells the classic story of “what if,” meaning what someone’s life could have been like if they picked a different path. For Lacey Chabert’s Hannah Dunbar, she wonders what would have happened to her if she stayed with the love of her life, Ben, instead of choosing her career. Santa Claus grants Hannah’s wish, and all of a sudden, she is back with Ben, and they have kids together.

It’s also nice to see a holiday film that’s not 100 percent about romance.

If one is tired of the stereotypical Hallmark Christmas movie that follows tired and common tropes, Time for Us to Come Home for Christmas is the ideal watch. It’s also great for those who love a mystery. In the film, five people (including Lacey Chabert’s Sarah) receive strange invitations to celebrate the holidays together at an inn. They must work together to discover what connects them and why they, specifically, were chosen.
Of course, Time for Us to Come Home for Christmas has a bit of romance. However, it’s the mystery aspect of the 2020 festive flick that separates it from the rest. Who wouldn’t love a good ole Hallmark Christmas movie that is defined by solving a mystery but also has plenty of romance? For those reasons alone, Time for Us to Come Home for Christmas ranks among Chabert’s best Christmas movies.

A Royal Christmas is a staple in Chabert’s Christmas movie filmography as it is one of her most memorable projects. As mentioned above, it came three years before A Christmas Prince premiered on Netflix and became a hit so big that the streaming service just kept on producing original holiday films. So, Hallmark’s movie A Royal Christmas is the original cheesy Christmas story about an ordinary woman falling in love with a prince, and it has Jane Seymour in it, so, it’s safe to say that it’s one of Chabert’s best.

Christmas in Rome undoubtedly gets a boost from its setting — what could be more romantic or exciting than a Hallmark Christmas movie in Rome? Italy is one of the best places to spend the holidays, after all. However, the 2019 film also features a thoughtful and layered love story that is unlike many Hallmark romances. For that reason and the Rome backdrop, Christmas in Rome is at the top of Chabert’s list of festive flicks.
