Unlike the 2023 group stage, which was held at the same location, the 2024 tournament will feature nearly all MLS clubs hosting group stage matches against Mexican teams at their home stadium. This change significantly increases the amount of travel for many Liga MX teams, who will now have to travel across the United States to face multiple MLS opponents. Games between two MLS clubs will be held at the home stadium of the higher-ranked team. In addition, the top four Liga MX clubs have been granted “hosting privileges,” allowing them to minimize travel during specific rounds of the tournament. Here are the four teams:

A new feature of the 2024 Liga Cup is the “hub” system, which reduces the travel burden for clubs that qualify for the MX Liga. The highest-ranked MX Liga club in the Liga Cup tier system is awarded “host rights” at various stages of the knockout rounds and is designated a “host city” so that clubs can avoid traveling to a certain location if they advance deeper into the knockout rounds.
Club America has “hub” rights for the semifinals, Monterrey has “hub” rights for the round of 16, Chivas has “hub” rights for the round of 32, and Tigres has “hub” rights for the group stage. Each club will be assigned a city where they can stay until the top stage before traveling to the hometown of a potential MLS opponent.

For the tiebreaker, when two teams are tied on points, the head-to-head result is the sole determining factor, with a penalty shootout win counting as a head-to-head victory. If three teams are tied on points, the tiebreaker is determined in the following order: goal difference, goals scored, and goals conceded.
