The story in “The Minicap” takes place before the events of “Four Swords” and “Four Swords Adventures” and explains how the Four Swords and the bad guy Vaati came to be. The game follows the style of previous Zelda games, particularly those with a top-down perspective such as Awakening. But it also brings new things, like Link having a magical talking hat named Ezro, who can make Link become as small as Minish.

What’s special about this game is the “minimum cap,” which allows Link to become very small through certain portals. This small size allows him to do things that his normal size cannot, such as using tiny portals or facing challenges that are too big for him.
In addition to the usual Zelda items like bombs and arrows, the minicap introduces three new items: the Mole Gloves (used for digging into walls), the Gust Canister (used for sucking up enemies and objects), and the Patch Cane (used with to turn things upside down). There’s also a cool feature where Link can duplicate himself in specific areas, even if the game is played alone. The idea came from the multiplayer game Four Swords.
Players can also collect “Kinstones,” which are like puzzle pieces that have been split into two parts. When you find matching pieces, it can help you progress in the game or give you a reward.

Now, Link and Princess Zelda go to the Picoli Festival. However, Vaati, the festival champion, breaks the Picori Blade and releases the monster. He turns Zelda to stone and leaves. Since only children can see Piccoli, King Daltus tells Link to find them to repair the sword and save Zelda. Link meets Ezro the Magic Hat in the Minish Forest. Ezro helps Link shrink to the size of Piccoli, who demands that Link get the Four Elements to repair the Piccoli Blade.
During the journey, Ezro revealed that he was a Piccoli sage who crafted a powerful hat called the Wizard’s Hat. His apprentice Vaati stole it and turned evil. Vaati trapped Ezro in his current form and took control of Hyrule Castle. Link obtained the Four Elements and repaired the sword, turning it into the Four Swords. They discover that Princess Hyrule contains the power of light. Vaati watches over them, learning about the Light Force and trying to take it from Zelda.
Link faces Vaati, who uses the power of light to become powerful. Link defeats Vaati, turning him into a demon. After Link defeats the demon, Ezro is freed and Zelda uses the Wizard’s Hat to negate the damage. Ezro thanks Link, gives him a new hat, and leaves the gates of the Kingdom of Piccoli, which remain closed for another century.
