Les Miserables in 2024
In 2024, Les Misérables will return to theaters. To celebrate the musical’s 40th anniversary, Mackintosh announced that it will be digitally remixed and remastered in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The film will be available in select Dolby Cinemas and AMC Theaters for one week. This special edition will be released on February 14, 2024 in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland, and on February 23, 2024 in the US.

Les Miserables
Les Misérables is a 2012 musical film directed by Tom Hooper and based on the 1862 novel by Victor Hugo and the stage musical of the same name by Claude-Michel Schoenberg, Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel. Starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway, the film is set in 19th century France and tells the story of Jean Valjean, who is hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert.
The film, which received widespread acclaim for its direction, production and cast, premiered in 2012 and grossed over $442 million worldwide. Despite critical acclaim, Russell Crowe’s performance was also criticized by some. Now, the digitally remixed and remastered version will be released in Dolby Cinemas on February 14, 2024 in the UK and February 23, 2024 in the US to mark the 40th anniversary of the musical.
Les Miserables plot
In 1815, Jean Valjean faces challenges on parole after being sentenced to 19 years in prison for stealing bread. The Bishop of Digne shows him kindness, prompting Jean Valjean to start over. Eight years later, Jean Valjean is a respected figure in Montreuil, but the arrival of Javert, a former prison guard, threatens his secret. Meanwhile, Fantine, a worker, struggles to support her daughter Cosette. Jean Valjean intervenes, revealing his identity to help Fantine.
Valjean escapes Javert, raises Cosette, and becomes a philanthropist. Love blossoms between Cosette and Marius, setting off a chain of events during the Revolution. Tragedy strikes as friends die, including Éponine, who sacrifices herself for Marius. Conflicted by Valjean’s kindness, Javert commits suicide.

Jean Valjean is afraid of the influence of the past and is ready to leave, but before that he confides the truth to Marius. At the wedding of Marius and Cosette, Jean Valjean dies peacefully and enters the afterlife with his loved ones.
