List of Batsmen Dismissed Most Number of Times in Nervous Nineties; Check Here

Did you know that in the nineties, the fear of getting fired was so real that there was even a term for it – nervous nineties?

The term “nervous nineties” refers to a situation in which a batsman is dismissed in the nineties (just before entering the coveted century). This phrase describes the anxiety and stress players feel when they are so close to a milestone but fail to convert it into a hundred.

The player with the most nineties in his career is legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. With eighteen nineties to his name, he is the unfortunate leader in that unpopular statistic.

Despite being the highest scorer in the history of international cricket, the ‘Little Master’ was often caught with less than a century to his name.

The tense nineties have become a common talking point among cricket fans, with players often feeling pressure to turn their nineties into centuries.

In this article, we look at some of the top batsmen who have gone through this anxiety phase multiple times in their careers.

Among the most intense nineties top cricketers across all formats, Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with an impressive 28 instances of sub-hundred nineties.

The legendary Indian batsman had an unparalleled career from 1989 to 2013, amassing a staggering 34,357 runs in 664 games, including Tests, ODIs and T20Is.

He is followed by New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, who faced the heartbreak of being sacked 15 times in the 1990s. Known for his consistency, Williamson played in 361 games and scored 18,359 points for an average of 48.18.

His temperament and calm approach have made him one of the most reliable batsmen in modern cricket.

Next up, maverick South African AB de Villiers came out with 14 nervous 90s. The versatile batsman, who played 420 games and scored 20,014 runs, had a knack for approaching centuries but often fell short. His explosive and dynamic batting style has earned him a reputation as one of the most innovative players in world cricket.

Rahul Dravid, the ‘wall’ of Indian cricket, was dismissed 14 times in the 1990s, ranking fourth. Dravid scored 24,208 runs in 509 matches, and his skill and temperament made him a mainstay of Indian cricket over the years, although he was often missed in the 1990s.

Finally, South Africa’s legendary all-rounder Jacques Kallis scored 13 90s in a career of 519 matches. Kallis, who scored 25,534 runs, was equally adept with the ball and his consistent performances across all formats earned him a place in cricket history.

The careers of these players are remembered for their consistency and occasional setbacks in less than a century.
