About Dada Saheb Phalke Award:
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest award in the Indian film industry and is awarded annually at the National Film Awards by the Film Festival Council established by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The first recipient of this award was Devika Rani at the 17th National Film Awards in 1969.
Dadasaheb Palk is known as the “Father of Indian Cinema”. In 1913, he produced India’s first feature film, “Raja Harishchandra”. Therefore, in memory of Dadasaheb Phalke, the Government of India established the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1969.
The winners were recognized for their “outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema”. The recipients of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award are selected by a committee of eminent personalities from the Indian film industry. The award includes a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medal, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs 100. 1 million.

About Dadasaheb Falk Dadasaheb Phalke, commonly known as the father of Indian cinema, is an Indian producer, director and screenwriter. He was born on April 30, 1870. In 1913, he produced India’s first film “Raja Harishchandra”, which was also India’s first feature film. He made 95 feature films and 27 short films during his career. |
