List of Highest Test Scores by Teams Until 2024

Cricket has witnessed several incredible team performances over the years, with some of them successfully crossing the 900- and 800-run mark. One of the most iconic milestones in the sport came in 1997 when Sri Lanka recorded the highest score in cricket history with a total of 952/6 against India in Colombo. Twenty-five years later, the record remains the team’s pinnacle in the sport.

England also have a long history in Test cricket, having finished in the top ten for highest scores on several occasions. Their highest total came in 1938 when they scored 903/7 against Australia at The Oval, the second-highest score ever recorded. Recently, in October 2024, England once again made headlines with a score of 823/7 against Pakistan in Multan, with Harry Brooke and Joe Root leading the way.

One of the most memorable performances of recent times came from England’s match in Multan (October 2024), with Harry Brook’s triple hundred (317) and Joe Root’s commanding 262 Led the team to an amazing 823/7d. The game now ranks as the fourth-highest team-scoring run in Test history. Root, now England’s leading Test run-scorer, surpassed Alastair Cook’s record in this game and further cemented his status as one of the game’s all-time greats.
