In 2025, 139 Padma Awards were announced to recognize individuals’ outstanding performance in arts, medicine, education, public affairs, and more. This extraordinary year features 113 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri recipients from India and abroad, reflecting the recognition of outstanding and high-level contributions in the United States.

The Indian President has awarded 139 PADMA awards in 2025, including a duo (two of which are considered one). The 139 awards include 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri Awards. This year can be considered an exception, as there are usually no more than 120 PADMA awards. Following this tradition, the Union Ministry of the Interior announced the winners’ names on the eve of the 76th Republic. The award was presented in March or April of the same year by the President of India at the ceremony held by Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi. Read for a complete list of Padma winners.

The Prime Minister recommended the name of the Bharat Ratna Award. Usually, no more than 3 Bharat Ratna awards are awarded in a year. For the PADMA Awards, the Padma Awards Committee, which consists of the Prime Minister, recommends the names of the winners every year. The Padma Awards Committee is led by the Cabinet Secretary and is recommended to be submitted to the Prime Minister and the President.
Padma Awards
PADMA awards are roughly divided into 3 categories 1. Padma Vibhushan – Granted with Excellence in Service.
- Padma Bhushan – Grants Advanced Advanced Services. 3. PadmaShri – Grants Outstanding Service. The winners received a SANAD (Certificate) signed by the President and medal. In addition to this, they were provided with a small clone of medals that could be used for ritual purposes. The winner’s name is also published in the Indian Gazette.
