The Prime Minister of Mauritius serves as head of the government and is in charge of the minister’s cabinet. The Prime Minister is responsible for advising the President and ensuring that ministerial litigation is aligned with the Constitution and Parliamentary Accountability. Office holders collectively are responsible to the National Assembly and require decisions to be made under ministerial authority.

The Prime Minister also owns other important investment portfolios including Ministers of Defense and Home Affairs, including national security, law enforcement and intelligence services. Additionally, as the leader of the National Assembly, office holders set the agenda of the parliament. The Prime Minister is also responsible for Rodriguez and other dependencies, managing its governance and management.

As the second highest position as president, the Prime Minister plays a crucial role in formulating government policies and leading the ruling party or alliance. The office holder resides in Clarisse House, while the official Prime Minister’s Office is located in Port Louis.

Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam is sworn in as Prime Minister of Mauritius

On November 13, 2024, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam officially served as Prime Minister of Mauritius. The swearing in ceremony was held at the State Capitol in Réduit, where he was sworn in and sworn in the presence of President Prithvirajsing Roopun. He replaced Pravind Jugnauth, who resigned from the position.

The event was contested with several outstanding figures in the political and administrative fields.

Dr. Ramgoolam led the Du Changement, which achieved a historic victory in the 2024 National Assembly elections held on November 10. The league won all 60 parliamentary seats in 20 constituencies, marking the country’s third 60-0 election ever.
