The Chief Minister of Punjab is the head of the state government, entrusted the management of the work of the government, important decisions for the development of the country, and worked for the welfare of the country. Since its establishment in 1947, there have been 15 chief ministers. Gopi Chand Bhargava is the first one. Currently, Bhagwant Mann is the chief minister who will start his term on March 16, 2022.

In 1966, the first chief minister of the newly reconfigured country was Giani Gurmukh Singh Musafir. In the 1967 election, Gurnam Singh of the Akali Das Sant Fateh Singh group became the first non-Parliamentary Chief Minister .

Rajinder Kaur Bhattal is the first female chief minister in Punjab. There are also instances of five presidential rule in Punjab, during which time the state was directly under the central government. Parkash Singh Badal served as Chief Minister for five terms. Amarinder Singh became CM for the second time in 2017, but failed to complete his term due to internal political factionism, while Charanjit Singh Channi became Punjab 6 months before the expiration of the 15th Congress The first chief minister.
Parkash Singh Badal served for the third time in 1997 and has become the first chief minister since Kairon resigned in 1964, with a full term. Badal was inherited by MP Amarinder Singh, who also successfully served for the term.
