alabama
Alabama is the 30th largest state in the United States and the 24th most populous of the 50 states. Known as the “Heart of Dixie,” the state is known for its Civil War history and culture.
Alaska
Alaska is the largest and third least populous state among the 50 states. In 1959, Alaska became the 49th state of the United States.
Arizona
Arizona, home to the Grand Canyon, is the 48th state of the United States.
Arkansas
Arkansas is the 27th largest state with a population of over 3 million. The state is known for its Southern culture.
california
California is the third largest state. In 1848, gold was discovered in California. This resulted in an influx of people into the state known as the “Gold Rush.”
colorado
Colorado became the 38th state on August 1, 1876. The state became a popular destination for gold and silver prospectors in the 19th century. That’s because the discovery of gold in 1858 sparked the Pikes Peak Gold Rush, which drew thousands to the area.
Colorado was a major player in the American Civil War. The state was divided between Union and Confederate supporters, and in 1862 the Battle of Glorieta Pass broke out in Colorado.

Connecticut was one of the original 13 colonies of the United States and the fifth state to ratify the United States Constitution on January 9, 1788.
The state was nicknamed the “Constitution State” because it was the first state to adopt a written constitution.
delaware
Delaware is the second-smallest and sixth-smallest state by population among the 50 states, with a population of 1.02 million residents in 2022. The state is known as the “First State” because it was the first of the original 13 states to accept the United States Constitution.
The smallest state in the United States is Rhode Island. It has a land area of only 1,545 square miles and a population of just over 1 million.

Colorado is home to the Rocky Mountains, Great Plains, and Colorado Plateau.
The state of Washington is called Washington State to distinguish it from the U.S. capital, Washington, D.C.
