M Bison is Both Familiar and Fresh in Latest Street Fighter 6 Trailer

M. Bison won’t die. The series’ iconic villain returns in Street Fighter VI as part of the Year 2 character DLC. The latest gameplay trailer shows off his new look, hints at a new direction for his character’s story, and gives players a glimpse at his latest moves.

The hooded, long-haired M. Bison has lost his memories, but his lust for power remains. In the gameplay shown, M. Bison’s signature Psycho Crusher move has returned as a regular move, whereas it was only a super move in Street Fighter 5. On the other hand, his fireball from the Alpha series and 5 does not appear to be returning.

The official Street Fighter 6 Steam page details M. Bison’s new mechanic: the Psycho Mine. If Bison hits his opponent with his new move, the Backfist Combo, he can plant a Psycho Mine on his opponent. If he hits his opponent again with the Backfist Combo, a Psycho Smash attack, or the Devil Reverse, the mine will explode; or if enough time has passed, the mine will explode on its own. Bison’s opponent can prevent this by hitting Bison before the mine explodes.

In addition to his new disheveled look, M. Bison is accompanied by a horse during his appearances, victory poses, and World Tour mode. While this gives him a proper Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse vibe, it could also be a slight reference to the 1994 live-action Street Fighter movie. In the movie, Raul Julia plays M. Bison, and a Napoleonic-style painting can be seen on his base, showing him riding a horse, as shown in the full clip shown below.

He also wore his famous classic costume in the 1994 live-action movie, and this costume has not been lost in time: it will also appear in Street Fighter 6 as his 2nd costume. If the Year 2 DLC fighter follows the same constants as all previous characters, players will be able to unlock Bison’s 2nd costume for free by increasing his Bond Level in the World Tour mode.

Additionally, players won’t have to wait too long to add Bison to their character roster. His release date is June 26, just a month and a few days after Akuma’s release. Since this year’s EVO will take place from July 19-21, Bison could be a legitimate contender like Rashid was last year.
