Marvel Snap OTA Patch Notes

  • Adam Warlock

    • Old Stats: 2/0 – If you win here, you draw a card after each turn.

    • Change: 2/0 -> 5/4

    • Rationale: In response to long-term underperformance, the change to 5/4 was made to balance the powerful card draw effect. This change is intended to keep the difficulty of achieving this effect.

  • Black Hawk

    • Old Stats: 4/0 – Ongoing: +2 Power for each card in your opponent’s deck.

    • Change: 4/0 -> 5/4

    • Reasoning: Game-changing, acknowledged for consistent top-tier performance. Considering Zabu’s role in Darkhawk’s strength, expect Zabu’s dynamic to change with new interactions in the upcoming metagame.

  • forging

    • Old Stats: 1/1 – When revealed: Grant +2 Power to the next card you play.

    • Change: 1/1 -> 2/2

    • Rationale: To balance the impact of Forge by reducing its impact, Forge is a key card in multiple decks. This adjustment is intended to promote more diversity in the use of 1-cost cards.

  • Ant-Man

    • Old Stats: 1/1 – Ongoing: +3 Strength if your side of this position is full.

    • New Stats: 1/1 – Ongoing: +4 Strength if your side of this position is full.

    • Rationale: Strengthens Ant-Man’s conditional effects by significantly increasing his power, ensuring the card remains relevant without upsetting the game balance.

  • America Chavez

    • Old Stats: 2/3 — When revealed: Give the top card of your deck +2 Power.

    • Change: 2/3 -> 1/2

    • Rationale: In keeping with Forge’s changes, America Chavez was reduced to 1 cost to keep the meta balanced. These changes are intended to keep both cards healthy.

  • tetanus

    • Old Stats: 3/2 – After you play a card here, swap it with a card from your deck. (Once per turn)

    • Change: 3/2 -> 4/5

    • Rationale: Addresses concerns about the impact of Lockjaw on future design work. The increased cost limits the number of swaps, limiting potential risk while maintaining the unique design of the card.

  • Sword Master

    • Old Stats: 3/6 – On Reveal: Discard a card from your hand.

    • Change: 3/6 -> 3/7

    • Rationale: Enhances Swordmaster’s viability as a discard enabler, ensuring it remains competitive and provides a strong power in discard decks.

  • Vulture

    • Old Stats: 3/3 – When this card moves, gain +5 Strength.

    • New Attributes: 3/3 – When this card moves, +6 Strength.

    • Rationale: Strengthens old cards to fit the game as it evolves, makes Vulture more relevant, and adds versatility to Move decks. This change takes into account the new dynamics brought about by cards like Shang-Chi.

How to Play Marvel Snap

Marvel Snap is a card game where players strategically deploy Marvel characters with unique abilities. Each player has a deck of 12 Marvel character cards, each with a different cost, power level, and special ability.

At the start of a round, players place cards face down in randomly assigned positions, each with a different effect. As the cards are revealed, their special powers are triggered, and the player with the highest power in a position wins. Winning two of the three positions secures victory, and the game lasts six rounds, with the power increasing as the cards become more powerful.

Players advance in the rankings by winning “dice”, and each roll doubles the stakes, reminiscent of the dice doubling game of backgammon. Compared to other collectible card games, Marvel Snap’s gameplay is simple to learn and each game only takes a few minutes. The game has more than 170 characters at launch worldwide, with new characters added every week.

Marvel Snap offers card cosmetic variants through in-game purchase or season rewards, featuring alternate artwork from renowned artists such as Rian Gonzales and Kim Jacinto. As of January 2023, there are over a thousand different variants to choose from, enhancing the game’s visual appeal.
