From a young age, Meghan Markle
has always been interested in both the arts and social equality, which might be why it was easy for her to walk away from her best movies and TV shows to focus on charity work and investment opportunities. Meghan Markle, now Duchess of Sussex, ended her acting career when marrying Prince Harry, though she has not stepped away from the entertainment world completely, penning children’s books, producing documentaries, and even narrating one.

Markle and her husband also have a development deal with Netflix, which is why her lifestyle series With Love, Meghan will have its home on Netflix in 2025. Markle’s career as an actor spans over 20 years, but many of her early roles were uncredited or did not involve enough screen time to share her talent with audiences. Her new venture in front of the camera will be a welcome addition to her best movies and TV shows for her fans.

A Lot Like Love (2005)
You are watching: Meghan Markle’s 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
As A Plane Passenger
A Lot Like Love does not feature Meghan Markle in a significant role. It is, however, her very first feature film role, and for that, it deserves a mention, especially since so many of her early roles were simply Markle trying to get her feet in the door in uncredited appearances or non-speaking roles.
A Lot Like Love is a romantic comedy in which two people (Amanda Peet, Ashton Kutcher) meet while traveling by plane. Sparks fly, but they go their separate ways, only to repeatedly cross paths after that. They become friends, moving in and out of one another’s lives as their careers take off and they have other relationships until finally, the movie makes good on its romantic comedy premise in the end.
Markle appears at the beginning of the movie as a passenger on a plane. She has a few lines, but she is not given much to do. She is still memorable, however, as this 2005 movie features a lot of emerging talent. In addition to Markle, Norman Reedus, Aimee Garcia, Gabriel Mann, and Ali Larter all appear in small roles in the movie. The casting director here had a very good eye for talent.

Deal Or No Deal (2006-2007)
As A Briefcase Holder
Deal or No Deal
Deal or No Deal is an international game show franchise where contestants choose from sealed briefcases containing various cash amounts. Hosted by different personalities in each region, the show’s tension builds as contestants decide whether to accept offers from a “banker” or risk losing money by opening more cases.

Not all of Meghan Markle’s movies and TV shows are ones telling fictional stories. She has lent her voice to narrations of documentaries and appeared in a few herself. This TV series, however, is not a docuseries, but instead, a game show.
Markle appeared in 36 of the 300 episodes of the US game show Deal or No Deal as one of the 26 briefcase holders in the hour. It’s not an acting role for those involved. Most of the briefcase holders in the show were models or aspiring actors, and this was early enough in Markle’s career that it would have been a steady paycheck that got her on a studio set.
The show features Howie Mandel as the host. A contestant is presented with the 26 women holding briefcases. As the gameplay goes, the contestant chooses one case to be theirs and several to eliminate. Throughout the hour, they are given the chance to either walk away and take a deal or keep working their way through the briefcases. It might not have been a particularly exciting job for Markle, but it is a fun game for audiences to watch.

When Sparks Fly (2014)
As Amy Peterson
In 2014, Meghan Markle made history as the first black woman to lead a Hallmark movie. One problematic element of that, however, is that Markle, as someone who is mixed race, was actually cast as a white woman instead. Markle one wrote about the difficulties she had booking roles because of her mixed heritage, detailing, “I wasn’t black enough for the black roles and I wasn’t white enough for the white ones, leaving me somewhere in the middle as the ethnic chameleon who couldn’t book a job.” (via Elle UK)
Despite the strange casting element to the movie, When Sparks Fly is a fairly straightforward Hallmark romance for 2014. Markle stars as a journalist working in Chicago who is well aware that newspapers appear to be on their way out. As part of an Independence Day feature, she suggests going behind the scenes of how a firework display is made. Having the human interest piece assigned to her means she heads back to the small town she is from where her parents own a company that sells fireworks and her best friend is about to marry her ex-boyfriend.
The movie might be full of Hallmark clichés like Markle’s character clearly being mismatched with her current boyfriend and ultimately having to choose between her current career and her hometown, but Markle turns out a solid performance in it. It’s actually one of her best performances, but only ranks so low because the script is lacking compared to more modern Hallmark channel standards.

Remember Me is a divisive movie. While the movie is initially presented as a romance and something of a character study, there is a twist in the end that a lot of the audience felt the movie should not have employed, turning it into a tragedy.
The movie follows Tyler (Robert Pattinson) who works for New York University and the young woman he meets, Ally (Emilie de Ravin), with the intention of dating her simply to anger her father, the police officer who arrested her. He falls for her fairly quickly though, and the two begin to make a life together as he mends fences with his own father.
Like so many of her early roles, Meghan Markle only has one scene in the movie Remember Me. She plays a bartender who encounters the two main male characters. During her brief appearance, the bar is packed, she is hustling, and she is clearly annoyed with the man approaching her. She makes it clear in a brief moment that they have a history without the audience needing to know anything else. It’s so brief that many of the fans who became familiar with her after watching Suits likely wish her character was more prominent in the movie.

Before she became the lead in a Hallmark movie, Meghan Markle had many of the same kind of roles struggling actresses in her age group did. More specifically, she often played the best friend instead of the lead. That’s the case here as well.
Random Encounters, retitled to A Random Encounter when it was released in the United Kingdom, is a movie that relies on its audience to believe in the fate of love from a meet-cute. A man and woman meet when they bump into one another at a coffee shop. Laura (Abby Wathen) spills her drink on Kevin (Michael Rady), and she apologizes, but they both are on their way to different meetings, so they move on. She, however, cannot stop thinking about him.
Laura is a struggling actress trying to make ends meet and hone her craft and is probably much closer to who Markle really is. Markle, however, plays Laura’s best friend Mindy. Mindy is a wild child and something of a party girl, but also the kind of person Laura can go to in order to bounce ideas off of her and get advice. She is very much a typical movie best friend, but Markle seems to have had plenty of fun playing the role, and she charms on screen.

Harry & Meghan is a six-part documentary series that covers the lives of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. From the early days of their relationship to their era as duke and Duchess of Sussex, the show gives a more detailed and intimate account of the couple’s romantic beginnings and their childhoods for additional background, as well as some of the less flattering moments of their lives. The series also takes a deeper dive into their reasoning behind stepping away from the Royal Family and their duties.

The documentary itself was a divisive move and caused British tabloids to produce even more coverage of the couple.
After making the decision to no longer be active members of the British royal family and live in the United States, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex agreed to appear in a documentary for Netflix about their relationship. The documentary itself was a divisive move and caused British tabloids to produce even more coverage of the couple.
The documentary combines real footage recorded on phones by the couple with interviews with them for the series as well as interviews with those close to them, academics, and journalists. The best thing about the six-part series is that it gives audience members who might have been following Meghan Markle’s career, or those interested in the royal family, or both, a look at what happened from the couple’s point of view.
The danger with any documentary is that there is an element of bias. Some have criticized the docuseries for not having interviews with other members of the royal family or members of the British press to better understand the pressures that come with being thrust into the world of the royal family. This is, for better or worse, the story of the titular couple, and it allows Meghan Markle to be human instead of simply play a role.

Fringe might not have had the biggest live audience of every science fiction show of the early 2000s, but it definitely found its niche and stuck with it. It found a great cast with the likes of Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, Lance Reddick, and John Noble. Meghan Markle appeared in just two episodes of season 2 of the series.
Fringe follows FBI agent Olivia Dunham (Torv) as she works with scientist Walter Bishop (Noble), who has always worked just on the other side of what is accepted. She and Walter’s son (Jackson) are tasked with keeping Walter in line while working together to solve cases that would have had a great home in The X-Files. Along the way, the group delves into the reality of parallel universes.
Markle plays a junior agent who ends up in charge of an investigation in the season 2 premiere. Markle plays her as someone who is capable and skeptical, but still open-minded. She could have been an interesting addition to the show. Her final appearance sees her comparing Fringe cases to Biblical events, which seemingly indicates the show might have been toying with a larger plan for her character, but it never came to pass.

The two have very easy chemistry with one another and make the budding relationship see much more realistic than the script would imply.
Dater’s Handbook is actually the last movie Markle made before marrying Prince Harry. It’s the better of her two Hallmark Channel movies.
The movie follows Markle’s Cassandra on a search for love. Unlike many Hallmark movies in which love is a byproduct of a small-town story or a Christmas celebration, this is one in which the lead actively wants to fall in love. Cassandra, however, always picks the “wrong” guy, so she decides to follow the advice of a book by a relationship expert to the letter. She finds herself having to choose between two men: the reliable man the book has been pointing her toward or the fun-loving guy she actually has a stronger connection with.
For the audience, Cassandra’s decision is going to be obvious. What makes the movie work despite the predictable story is the chemistry between the actors. Markle does most of her work alongside Kristoffer Polaha, who audiences will know from a slew of other TV projects, including other Hallmark movies. The two have very easy chemistry with one another and make the budding relationship seem much more realistic than the script would imply.

Disneynature: Elephant (2020)
As The Narrator
Disneynature is the arm of Disney that produces documentaries about the natural world. While some of those documentaries have been acquired from other producers, some of the movies have been made specifically by documentary teams for Disney. Some of the Disneynature documentaries, like this one, examine a specific group of animals instead of providing a broader look at the natural world.
Disneynature: Elephant focuses on a family of elephants in Africa. The group is led by an older female as they travel across the Kalahari desert and encounter all manner of obstacles, including lions. Meghan Markle provides the narration of their journey.
The documentary makes sense as a non-acting project for the Duchess of Sussex. Even before she was brought into the philanthropic work of the British royal family, the actor was a supporter of women’s rights and natural conservation. There is a warmth to her narration that someone else might not have had.

Suits is the highest-profile project Meghan Markle had during her acting career. Her decision to leave acting even came during the show’s run. There were an additional two seasons made after her character left the show.
Suits focuses primarily on a lawyer at a prestigious law firm that specializes in corporate law and the man he hires who does not actually have a law degree. The legal drama initially focuses on their attempt to hide his lack of credentials from the rest of the firm because he is so knowledgeable about the law without it. As the show progresses, however, it also becomes more about the struggle for power within the firm as partners come and go.
Markle stars in Suits for the first seven seasons of the show as a paralegal at the law firm. She is smart, capable, and eventually, becomes a lawyer herself by the end of the series. Markle’s Rachel is also paired up with Mike (Patrick Adams), the man who spends most of the series hiding his lack of a law degree. Their chemistry adds a more personal storyline to her arc in the show.
Though Meghan Markle’s acting career consists mostly of smaller and uncredited roles, Suits demonstrates that she is a great talent and likely would have continued to see her star rise had she chosen to remain in the industry. Suits is Meghan Markle’s best TV show.
