Minecraft Development
Development of Minecraft began with Markus “Notch” Persson, who was inspired by games like Dwarf Fortress and Infiniminer. While working at King until March 2009, Persson had been developing browser games, prototyping games in his spare time and exploring ideas like “RubyDung”. The blocky style of Infiniminer inspired his vision for Minecraft and influenced its basic gameplay elements.

The initial Java version of Minecraft came out in May 2009, demonstrating Persson’s dedication as he completed the basic program in a single weekend. Early versions were privately tested, and the game was publicly released on the TIGSource forums in May 2009, going through the Classic, Survival Test, Indev, and Infdev stages.
The first major update, Alpha, was released in June 2010, prompting Persson to quit his day job to work on Minecraft full-time. Continuous updates brought new features, monsters, and game mechanics, and funding was provided by the founding of Persson’s gaming company, Mojang.
In November 2011, Minecraft transitioned from beta to full release, with Jens “Jeb” Bergensten taking over creative control. Microsoft acquired Mojang in 2014, securing the future of Minecraft. Since then, the game has undergone multiple updates, adding content and enhancing the player experience.
The Minecraft phenomenon has expanded to various platforms, including Pocket Edition, Console Edition, and Education Edition, and has become a global gaming trend.
