The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) celebrated National Film Day for the first time in India on September 23, 2022 to mark the reopening of cinema halls after the coronavirus pandemic.

The event was initially scheduled for September 16, 2022, but was later postponed to September 23, 2022 due to requests from various stakeholders to maximize participation.
