Oneotrix Pointer-Never was born Daniel Lopatin in Massachusetts on July 25, 1982. His early life was influenced by his Russian Jewish “music-rejecting” parents, both of whom had musical backgrounds. He was exposed to electronic music through his father’s collection and a Roland Juno-60 synthesizer, which he played with collaborator Joel Ford in high school.
After attending Hampshire College, Lopatin moved to Brooklyn to attend graduate school at Pratt Institute, where he majored in archival studies and became involved in the local noise music scene. His musical journey began under various aliases and bands before joining Oneohtrix Point Never.
