The Pixies

The Pixies are an influential American alternative rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1985. Band members include Black Francis (aka Frank Black), Joey Santiago, Kim Deal and David Lovering. Known for their unique sound that blends elements of punk, surf rock and pop, the Pixies quickly gained attention in the music industry.

One of the Pixies’ breakthrough moments was the 1988 album Surfer Rosa, released on the British independent record label 4AD. The band’s third album Doolittle, released in 1989, became their most successful effort, and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1995. The Pixies’ unique style, marked by Black Francis’ distinctive voice and surreal lyrics, influenced many alternative and indie rock bands. Despite a hiatus in the early ’90s and disbanding in 1993, the Pixies reunited in 2004 and continue to create music that resonates with old fans and new audiences alike.
