Should you save Will or his father in Baldur’s Gate 3?
If you’re unsure about the results of either option, here’s some insight. Saving Will’s father seems like the wiser choice in Baldur’s Gate 3. Although Mikong claimed that rejecting her new agreement would lead to the Archduke’s demise, this was not entirely accurate. If you refuse the contract, there is still a chance to free Will’s father.
Method 1: Save Will’s father by renewing his contract with Mikong
While you may have helped Will get out of his contract with Mikong, she proposed an alternative arrangement. Choosing this decision puts Will’s fate back under Midon’s control. However, Michon will reveal the Archduke’s location and offer help to free him from the Iron Throne. While Will may feel a sense of nobility in sacrificing his soul to save his father, this path is not recommended. The reason for this is explained below.
Method 2: Save Will and release his contract, but the price is his father’s life
Shuikong claims that violating the agreement will lead to the death of the Grand Duke, but her words should not be believed. Choosing this route may weigh heavily on Will’s conscience, even though he retains his warlock powers. Still, the scene provides an opportunity to gather information about the Iron Throne.
Choosing to lead Will into breaching his contract sets me on a mission to destroy the Steel Watch Foundry. During this pursuit, I discovered several hostages imprisoned within the Iron Throne. While I didn’t expect to find the Archduke there, he is indeed still alive in the underwater prison.
After rescuing him, Suikong tried to thwart my efforts by sending exploding spiders. Regardless, the successful escape allowed me to bring Will’s father to my camp. Both are grateful for the rescue, and Will’s quest line continues from there. Essentially, choosing to save Will ultimately leads to a better outcome because his father can still be saved in the end.

“Baldur’s Gate 3” gameplay
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a role-playing video game that seamlessly blends single-player and cooperative multiplayer components. Gamers have the opportunity to create a protagonist or characters, form a team with pre-designed individuals, and immerse themselves in the game’s narrative. Alternatively, players can choose a character and team up with other players online to build a cohesive team.
As with previous games in the Baldur’s Gate series, the combat system is turn-based, similar to mechanics found in Larian’s earlier works, including Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin II. The entire battle follows the rules of Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.
Baldur’s Gate 3 plot
The game’s story takes place in 1492 DR, an important time span after the events of “Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn” and a few months after “Baldur’s Gate: The Fall into the Hell Temple.” The game contains the branching storyline features of a CRPG. This structure maintains the core storyline no matter what decisions the player makes, but the intricate details vary widely, especially those related to the numerous side missions. When the game begins, players can forge an original character, a narrative “blank slate,” or choose from seven preset “original characters.”
The game begins by plunging players into an initial scenario in which the protagonist is seduced by the mind flayers, who are orchestrating an invasion of Faerûn via their spellships. The mind flayers implanted illithid tadpoles that turned their victims into mind flayers, but their plans were disrupted by Githyanki warriors and dragons.
The protagonist regains freedom in the chaos and guides the ship back to Faerûn before it crashes. In the process of eliminating the parasite, the protagonist encounters fellow survivors, all of whom have tadpoles: Githyanki warrior Raizel, half-elf priest Shadowheart, high elf vampire thief Astarion, human wizard Gale, human Will the Warlock and Karak the Tiefling Barbarian.
Next, the protagonist discovers a goblin cult that worships a deity known as the Absolute. A guardian, the Dream Visitor, reveals a crucial battle against the Absolute that threatens the kingdom. The Guardian urges the protagonist to harness the parasite’s magic rather than shy away from it. In Act Two, players infiltrate the Moonrise Tower to reveal the puppet masters behind the cult—the champions of the gods Bane, Baal, and Myrkul, collectively known as the Death Trio.

The champions manipulate the mind of an illithid elder through ancient Netherese magic, planning to use it to command cultists and mind flayers to target Baldur’s Gate. In the third act, the protagonist and their team seize control of the Brain and then face a critical choice: either destroy the Brain or use its power to rule the kingdom, depending on the choices made throughout the game.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Development
Baldur’s Gate was originally created by BioWare and Black Isle Studios and published by Interplay Entertainment in 1998. The game uses a licensed version of the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) rule set, specifically in the context of the Forgotten Realms. This victory gave birth to the emergence of “Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn” and its expansion pack, as well as the birth of games such as “Icewind Dale” and “Planescape Torment”.
Although Black Isle Studios launched Baldur’s Gate III: Blackhound in 2003, the project was halted due to financial turmoil at Interplay, which ultimately led to Black Isle’s closure. The rights to the D&D video game were transferred to Atari in 2008. After the cancellation of Baldur’s Gate III: Blackhound, Larian Studios began developing a new sequel to the Baldur’s Gate series.
The IP has attracted a number of developers, including inXile Entertainment’s Brian Fargo and Obsidian Entertainment’s Feargus Urquhart, who have been keen to acquire the IP for years.
Larian Studios had expressed interest in a Baldur’s Gate sequel and approached Wizards of the Coast after the release of Divinity: Original Sin. However, due to their relative newness in the industry, their application was initially rejected. Larian’s subsequent development of Divinity: Original Sin II and its impressive pre-release material caught the attention of Wizards of the Coast. This led to Larian’s involvement in the creation of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Baldur’s Gate 3 follows the fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons rule set, modified and adapted by Larian for the video game medium. The game’s combat system has been specifically designed to facilitate player enjoyment while still retaining the essence of tabletop gaming. The game was revealed ahead of E3 2019 and officially revealed during the Google Stadia demo. “Baldur’s Gate: Fall into Avernus” is a tabletop adventure game published by Wizards of the Coast, and is the “prequel” to “Baldur’s Gate 3”.
The events of Baldur’s Gate 3 take place after Falling into Avernus. The game was originally scheduled to be released in Early Access on September 30, 2020, but was later postponed to October 6, 2020. The early access version includes the first act, approximately 25 hours of gameplay, and includes a character creator with different races and classes.
After early access, the game will be officially released in August 2023. Unfortunately, the Stadia version was canceled due to Stadia shutdown. The game was originally scheduled to fully release on macOS, Windows, and PlayStation 5 on August 31, 2023, with the PC release date changed to August 3, and the macOS and PlayStation 5 release date to September 6. Xbox Series X and Series S ports are also in development, but have yet to be officially announced due to technical issues. The PlayStation 5 version is published by Spike Chunsoft of Japan.
