Ahead of the game’s official release on September 6, modder PureDark has released a free mod that brings DLSS 2 to Starfield. PureDark has also launched another MOD, DLSS 3 with frame generation, but this is not free and it comes with DRM protection, which has caused some controversy in the gaming community. Shortly after its release, the DRM of the DLSS 3 mod was successfully bypassed.

Interstellar Clues Surgical Strike Exercise

Visit the clinic

You need to go to a place called “The Clinic” because a person named Maya Cruz had a major surgery there. This is a bit confusing because there are so many places using this name. But don’t worry, the Marshal has asked you to talk to Ranger Ben Armistead, and the clinic is located in space around a planet called Deepala.

You have to contact the clinic, fly there, and dock your ship. It’s cool because it’s in space.

Once inside, you’ll see the boss talking to the delivery boy. Look to the left and you’ll find something called Constellation Guide 04 on the table, which might be useful. You can also talk to your doctor if needed.

Further inside, on the right, you’ll find an actual ranger station. Ranger Ben Armistead is there. Even though he has nothing to do, talk to him anyway. He already knew what was going on. He will take you to meet a computer guy named “Ari Miller”.

A conversation with Ari Miller

Ari, being the cool guy that he is, checked his computer for information about Maya and found nothing. However, he does give you some names that Maya might use as aliases.

Now, there are two ways to proceed with the mission:

  • If you have a skill called “Security” (like being good at picking locks), you can select the Security option. This gives you the additional task of using a computer in a Ranger station with special access rights to figure out what’s causing the system problem. It’s interesting because you can find something unusual, called a “Disrupter Mk4”, which is linked to a person named “Catalina Rivera” in the VIP section.

  • If you don’t have this skill, Ali will give you some names to investigate. You can walk around the station and talk to the women here to see if they are Mayan. This way, you can narrow your search and discover that your suspect is in the VIP area.

It’s no surprise that Maya is in the VIP section!

Enter VIP Wing

The VIP wing is where Maya is because it’s very private and the clinic doesn’t let anyone in. Ari will tell you that you should talk to Dr. Cassidy, who is in charge of that section. Dr. Cassidy, however, strictly follows the rules.

Ali is very helpful and tells you that Dr. Cassidy has a spare access card in his office. Isn’t Ali great?

Now, there are two ways to deal with this problem:

  • You may choose to speak to Dr. Cassidy first. He is not easily persuaded, so it is best to use persuasive methods. It helps if you’re persuasive. If you succeed, you’ll get the VIP Wing Keycard from him.

  • Alternatively, you can find Dr. Cassidy’s office and open his safe. It’s not difficult to pick the lock, and inside you’ll find the key card. It was just a simple lock and there was nothing else in the safe.

Once you get the keycard, you can enter the VIP section, but keep in mind that this is a different area and may be loaded separately.

looking for clues

When you enter the VIP wing, things look bad. There is a dead doctor in the area and a turret starts shooting at you! You’ll need to act quickly to dismantle the turret. It was clear that the Mayans had taken control of the turret. Be careful when entering her room as there are mines on the floor. But beyond these dangers, you can also explore the area. You’ll find several helpful health packs.

When you’re in Maya’s room (don’t forget to note the docking lock nearby), look around. You should find a slate next to her bed with an emergency message written on it. Better to read it now. Leaving it would be a mistake because Maya doesn’t know who is coming for her and it might contain important information.

How to investigate the Star Surgical Rod Abandoned Mine?

Visit Sakharov/Investigate the Abandoned Asteroid Mine

  • If you return to your ship and try to report to Ben or the Doctor about your dead colleague, no one seems to care. Strange, right?

  • Now, let’s board your ship and head to Sakharov’s old asteroid mine. When you get there, you’ll notice that the Asteroid Mine is another floating structure that you can dock to, which is pretty cool.

  • When you go in, look out for a display mannequin complete with gear you can bring yourself. This is a great find.

  • In the first room with the large crystal, some creatures called bombbreakers will emerge from the ground and try to attack you. Be ready to fight them, and watch out for the mines on the right side of the room.

  • After dealing with the Crumb Beetles, you’ll find a locked door. To open it, you need to use a laser to break the lock. This leads to a larger room where the first enemy is a robot, but there are more bombbreakers and a powerful level 20 robot dog. Be prepared to use powerful weapons or explosives to deal with them.

  • Once you defeat the robot dog, you’ll find a powered-off door at the end of the path. Follow the wires up the ramp to a room where you can hack the computer with a novice lock to unlock the door. This allows you to explore more rooms with shredders and turrets. Be sure to save your progress.

  • Keep going until you reach an elevator that takes you to a large area. This room is full of challenges as robots roam around, including a robot dog. The real threat, however, are the four laser turrets in the corners. Use ranged attacks to eliminate them and avoid getting killed.

  • Your goal is to ascend the central structure and reach the top. Deal with the other turret and use the laser to unlock the locked door. You will find Maya here.

  • Shoot down Maya and she won’t speak until you “kill” her. Afterwards, talk to her and try to get some answers. She won’t say much, but she will give you a cryptographic tablet that Alex may find valuable.

  • It’s up to you whether you want to end her or let her die a natural death. Some players chose to kill her because she murdered a doctor for no apparent reason.

Providing Crypto to Alex Shadid

It’s time to return to the rock and give the Encrypted Slate to Alex. On the way back, you can take the elevator from Maya’s area. Make sure to search for items thoroughly, as some doors may open to provide shortcuts.

Of note, after going through a large door, you’ll find a large chest to the right containing a unique item, and an unlocked safe behind the bed near the bed containing another unique item.

Return to your ship and return to the rocks.

When you return to Stone City, talk to Alex. He hasn’t finished the first Encryption Tablet yet, but this new one you found will definitely help.

Give him the Encryption Slate and the mission is complete. Well done, Ranger!
