Australian cricket legend Steve Smith has officially bid farewell to the one-day international (ODI). The amazing midrange batsman played the final ODI match in the semifinals of the championship trophy against India in Dubai on March 4, 2025, where he was Australia’s top scorer and confirmed 73 runs. Steve Smith said in a statement: “It felt like the right time. It was a great journey and I loved every minute of it. There were a lot of great times and great memories. Winning two World Cups was a great highlight, with many great teammates who shared the journey.”

“Now is a great opportunity for people to start preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup, so it feels like the right time. Testing cricket is still a top priority and I’m really looking forward to the World Test Championship final, the West Indies in the winter, and then at home in England. I feel like I’m still going to contribute a lot at that stage,” he added.
Smith left an impressive ODI career at the age of 35, covering 170 games, during which time he accumulated 5,800 games with an average run of 43.28 with a strike rate of 86.96. His statistics include 12 centuries and 35 and a half centuries, making him the 12th place in Australia in ODI history. His highest score in the format was an astonishing 164 runs, achieving success against New Zealand in 2016.
Smith’s cricket journey began in Sydney and he showed off his outstanding talent since childhood. Over the years, he has grown into a major player in Australian cricket.
