How to get to Jost Island?

To reach Jost Island, follow these steps:

Complete Rose Town: First, complete the Rose Town level and recruit Gino to your team.

Access to the Pipe Library: After completing Rose Town, you will gain access to the Pipe Library. This is an optional level, so you don’t have to go there if you don’t want to.

Navigating the Pipe Vault: Inside the Pipe Vault, find the green area with a pipe in the middle. This pipe is the entrance to Yo’ster Island.

Go down the pipe: Go down the pipe and begin your journey to Yost Island. The paths are simple, the enemies are simple, and the platforming challenges are simple.

Reaching the Isle of Ust: Continue through the pipe vault and you will eventually emerge on the Isle of Ust.

Optional Mini-Game: In the Pipe Vault, there is a Goomba Thumping mini-game run by a mole. Participation rewards such as flower tags, flower jars, and frog coins.

Following these steps will ensure you reach Yo’ster Island in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

What is there on Yost Island?

Upon arriving at Jost Island, visitors should notice some interesting features. Notably, Fat Yoshi, a beloved meme, is located at the top of the island. First introduced as a baby, feeding him cookies revealed a character that has been cherished over the past two decades.

However, a not-so-pleasant encounter awaits on Yo’ster Isle, the challenging Yoshi circuit. This demanding mini-game requires players to press buttons while riding Yoshi, competing against Boshi and other island residents. While some Super Mario RPG players may complete it with ease, others, like the Narrator, may find it a rather challenging feat.

Super Mario RPG

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is a role-playing video game developed by Square and published by Nintendo in 1996 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Directed by Chihiro Fujioka and Yoshihiko Maekawa, produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, and with music by Yoko Shimomura, it was the last Mario game on the SNES.

The story follows Mario and his friends as they try to defeat the Blacksmith Gang, who have invaded their world and scattered the seven star fragments of Star Road. It was the first Mario role-playing game, featuring turn-based combat and isometric 3D environments. Critically acclaimed for its humor and graphics, it inspired games such as Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi. The Nintendo Switch remake was released on November 17, 2023 to positive reviews.

Super Mario RPG

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars combines elements of Square’s Final Fantasy series with the familiar Super Mario Bros. platformer. Gameplay revolves around two main aspects: adventure and turn-based combat. The game’s design is reminiscent of traditional Japanese role-playing games (JRPGs).

In the adventure portion, the game adopts an isometric 3D platformer style, showcasing classic Mario features such as hitting question blocks. Unlike typical JRPGs, there are no random enemy encounters. Enemies are visible on the battlefield and will only start combat when Mario makes contact, allowing players to avoid unnecessary fights.

Starting with Mario alone, the team can be expanded to five characters, with up to three characters participating in the battle. Characters like Toadstool, Geno, and Bowser bring unique attacks and abilities to the team. Toadstool Princess focuses on healing, while Geno and Bowser unleash powerful offensive moves. The turn-based combat system includes action commands, the effects of which can be enhanced by pressing timed buttons during attack or defense.

Players can choose options from the combat menu to attack, defend, run, use items, or cast magic. The introduction of action commands, which required timed button presses, became a staple of later Mario role-playing games, adding an interactive layer to the traditional turn-based system.
