Interstate 20-20 Championship
- The Inter-State 20-20 tournament, later known as Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, marked the beginning of the important T20 tournament in India.
- In its inaugural season (2006-07), Tamil Nadu, captained by Dinesh Karthik, emerged victorious and clinched the title.
- The final was held at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and pitted Tamil Nadu against Punjab.
- In a tight contest, Tamil Nadu chased down Punjab’s 134 runs and ended up winning by just two wickets at 135 for 8 in 19.5 overs.
- Key performances included Karan Goel from Punjab scoring 26 runs and Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan contributing 27 runs for Tamil Nadu.
2009-10 season
- In the 2009-10 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Maharashtra showed their prowess in T20 cricket by winning the title.
- The format of the tournament allows teams to compete at various stages, culminating in the final between Maharashtra and Hyderabad.
- Led by Rohit Motwani, Maharashtra set a challenging target of 119 runs and successfully defended it by restricting Hyderabad to 100 runs goal, resulting in a 19-point victory.
2010-11 season
- The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2010-11 witnessed the glory of Bangladesh as they won their first title in this prestigious tournament.
- Led by Manoj Tiwary, Bengal faced Madhya Pradesh in the final. In a tense match, Bengal scored 142 runs batting first.
- The match was closely contested and Madhya Pradesh ended with just 141 runs.
2011-12 season
- Baroda won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for the first time under the leadership of Pinal Shah in the 2011-12 season.
- They faced Punjab in a thrilling final in which Baroda scored a total of 149 runs.
- Punjab fought hard but ended up losing by 141 runs, with Baroda claiming an eight-run victory.
2012-13 season
- The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2012-13 was won by Gujarat and he displayed exceptional skills throughout the tournament.
- Led by Parthiv Patel, they faced Punjab again in the final.
- Batting first, Gujarat scored 128 runs and successfully defended their total by restricting Punjab to 122 runs.
2013-14 season
- In the 2013-14 season, Baroda achieved another success by winning the title again under the leadership of captain Aditya Waghmode.
- They faced Uttar Pradesh in a tight final in which Baroda scored 144 points while Uttar Pradesh scored only 141 points.
2014-15 season
- The 2014-15 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy saw Gujarat regain its second title under the leadership of Parthiv Patel.
- They faced Punjab in a thrilling final, with Gujarat scoring 123 runs and successfully fending off a Punjab batting line-up that could only muster 117 runs.
2015-16 season
- In 2015-16, Uttar Pradesh registered its first victory under the leadership of Suresh Raina.
- They faced Baroda in the last match and UP set a target of 163 runs and actually restricted Baroda to 125 runs to win by 38 runs.
2016-17 season
- The 2016-17 season has no confirmed champion as it uses an inter-regional format rather than a traditional knockout tournament.
- East Zone emerged as the winners of this unique format, led by Manoj Tiwary, showcasing regional talent but lacking the traditional final structure.
2024-25 season
- The 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Cup competition begins on November 23, 2024, with 38 teams competing in a round-robin format before entering the knockout stages, with the final scheduled to be held on December 15, 2024.
- The season has already seen impressive performances, with Baroda breaking a record against Sikkim by scoring 349 points, the highest team total in the tournament’s history.
- The innings was led by Bhanu Pania, who had Abhimanyu Singh, Vishnu Solanki and Shivalik Sharma ) scored an impressive 134 runs in just 51 balls on the back of a half-century.
- In the group stage, teams like Madhya Pradesh and Mumbai also performed well, with Madhya Pradesh beating Hyderabad and Punjab.
