The International Cricket Council (ICC) is cricket’s global governing body and oversees various prestigious tournaments. These include the ICC Cricket World Cup, T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy and World Test Championship.

The ICC Championship is considered the most prestigious event in cricket with teams trying to lift the trophy. But so far, only a few teams have been able to accomplish this feat and few have won more than two ICC tournaments.

Australia are the most successful team in ICC history, winning 10 trophies, a record unmatched by any other country. Their victories include five ODI World Cups, two Champions Trophies, a T20 World Cup and the World Test Championship, making them the only team to have won all the ICC titles.

India follows with 6 trophies, including ODI and T20 World Cups, while West Indies have 5 trophies and have performed well in the T20 format.

ICC Cricket Championship

The ICC organizes four major cricket tournaments: World Test Championship, World Cup, T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy. These are considered to be the biggest and most important cricket tournaments in the world and countries put in huge efforts to achieve victory.

The International Cricket Council has a total of 104 member countries, including 12 full members and 92 associate members, but only a handful of countries have tasted the glory of lifting the IPL trophy. #1. Australia: 10 titles

Australia is the most successful team in ICC history, having won a total of 10 ICC trophies. Their dominance includes six ICC World Cup victories, achieved in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015 and most recently in 2023.

Furthermore, they also won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021 and won the ICC Champions Trophy twice, in 2006 and 2009. Their victory in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship in 2023 further cemented their status as a cricket powerhouse.

India ranks second with 6 International Cricket Federation trophies, demonstrating their prowess in international cricket. Their first major victory came in 1983 when they defeated the West Indies to win the ICC Cricket World Cup under the captaincy of Kapil Dev.

In 2011, under the leadership of MS Dhoni, India added color to their team by winning the World Cup again. They also won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 and won the Champions Trophy twice, in 2002 (tied as champion) and 2013.

The recent win of the 2024 T20 World Cup under the leadership of Rohit Sharma further highlighted India’s competitive edge and passion for the game.

#3. West Indies: 5 titles

The West Indies cricket team has a glorious history, having won a total of 5 International Cricket Federation trophies. They were pioneers of limited-overs cricket, winning the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1975 and 1979 for two consecutive years under the leadership of Clive Lloyd.

The team has also been successful in T20 cricket, winning the ICC T20 World Cup twice in 2012 and 2016 under the leadership of Darren Sammy.

They won the Champions Trophy in 2004, adding to their status as one of cricket’s strongest teams at their peak.

#4. Pakistan: 3 times champion

Pakistan has also won 3 International Cricket Federation trophies, highlighting its rich cricketing history. Their first major success was winning the 1992 ICC Cricket World Cup under the leadership of Imran Khan.

Pakistan subsequently won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 and won the ICC T20 World Cup for the first time in 2009.

In 2002, Sri Lanka shared the Champions Trophy with India due to rain during the final.

In 2014, under the leadership of Lasith Malinga, the team won its third trophy by defeating India again to win the ICC T20 World Cup. This period marked Sri Lanka’s emergence as a formidable force in international cricket.

#6. England: 3 titles

The England team has won a total of 3 International Cricket Federation trophies and has achieved significant achievements in international cricket.

Their first major victory was at the ICC World Cup 2019, where they defeated New Zealand in a dramatic final that ended in a super over. England have also been successful in T20 cricket, winning the tournament twice: first in 2010 and second in 2022.

Although they are yet to win the ICC Champions Trophy, their consistent performances have made them a competitive force on the global stage.
