The 10 Best Star Wars Characters Who Have Less Than 15 Minutes Of Screen Time

These 10 Star Wars characters shockingly have less than 15 minutes of screen time each, and they definitely deserved so much more. Plenty of Star Wars’ best characters have much less screen time than one might think, especially when compared to other, seemingly less prominent characters. In fact, characters like Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa bewilderingly don’t even make it into the top 10 of Star Wars characters with the most screen time.

In part, this is due to the nature of Star Wars’ movies and TV shows. Characters like Ahsoka Tano and Ezra Bridger top the charts because they have appeared in so many episodes of Star Wars’ shows. For characters who have only ever (or at least primarily) been in the movies, it’s difficult to compete with that much screen time. These 10 characters represent a mix of Star Wars shows and movies, yet they each have less than 15 minutes of total screen time in all their appearances.

Orson Krennic

First Appeared In: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Close

Orson Krennic was arguably the primary antagonist of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, even as Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine were looming in the background throughout the movie. Krennic was introduced in the opening scenes of Rogue One, during which he had Jyn Erso’s mother, Lyra, gunned down. He then was the main force opposing Jyn and her titular Rogue One team as they attempted to get the Death Star plans to the Rebels.

Surprisingly, according to The Screen Time Holocron, Krennic has just 12 minutes of total screen time in Star Wars. Given what a major threat Krennic seems to be throughout Rogue One, it’s difficult to imagine that the entirety of his character really comes down to mere minutes. This also puts him behind characters like the Son (part of the Mortis Gods), Prince Lee-Char from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and his Imperial counterpart Dedra Meero from Andor, revealing just how shocking this screen time is.

Wedge Antilles

First Appeared In: A New Hope

Close

Although he certainly couldn’t be considered a main character, Wedge Antilles has made a name for himself in Star Wars, and he’s been a beloved character since the original trilogy. Wedge first appeared in A New Hope as a Rebel pilot, flying alongside Luke Skywalker. He then returned in both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, although in all three original trilogy movies, Wedge was on screen for less than one minute, respectively.

Most of Wedge Antilles’ 12 total minutes of screen time in Star Wars actually comes from Star Wars Rebels. In the animated show, Wedge appeared as a younger version of himself, and it was revealed that Wedge was initially an Imperial TIE fighter pilot. He ultimately defected alongside a few other pilots, which brought him face-to-face with Rebels character Sabine Wren. Wedge also had a cameo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skwaylker, although The Screen Time Holocron doesn’t have that time factored in.

Korkie Kryze

First Appeared In: Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Close

Korkie Kryze was introduced in The Clone Wars, and he quickly became of interest to audiences because of his parentage. Satine Kryze, Duchess of Mandalore at the time, referred to Korkie as her nephew in the show. However, Satine’s only sibling seems to be Bo-Katan, and Korkie is not her son. This, combined with the fact that Satine was revealed to have once been Obi-Wan Kenobi’s love interest, led many to speculate that Korkie was Obi-Wan Kenobi’s son.

Despite how much attention Korkie has gotten because of this, he has only been on screen for a total of 11 minutes, all of which was in The Clone Wars. It remains to be seen whether Korkie will play a role in any of Star Wars’ upcoming projects. His fate is currently unknown, and given Bo-Katan is his aunt and has become increasingly important in the New Republic Era, it’s possible Korkie will be seen again, perhaps confirming his parentage one way or another.

K-2SO

First Appeared In: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Close

K-2SO was introduced in Rogue One, and he quickly became a fan-favorite character, joining a long line of droids who have captured the hearts of Star Wars audiences. K-2SO proved to have a brilliant sense of humor, quickly playing along with Rogue One’s scheme (including by smacking Cassian Andor and hilariously threatening to give him another one). One of the best aspects of K-2SO is the fact that he was a re-programmed Imperial droid, marking yet another amazing redemption story in Star Wars.

Many were also delighted to know that K-2SO will be appearing in Andor season 2, which is set to release in April of this year. Sadly, K-2SO’s story (along with Cassian’s and many other characters from Rogue One) is pre-determined based on the ending of that movie. Nevertheless, it will be wonderful to see K-2SO return to the Star Wars screen once more. This will also no doubt add considerably to his current 10 total minutes of screen time.

Maz Kanata

First Appeared In: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Close

Maz Kanata first appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and she was instantly a compelling character. In the first sequel trilogy movie, Han Solo, Rey, and Finn all went to Maz’s castle to seek her guidance, which is also where and when Rey heard Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber calling to her. In addition to setting Finn and Rey on their respective heroic paths, Maz also appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, always helping to guide the sequel trilogy heroes.

In spite of her importance, Maz currently only has 11 total minutes of screen time in Star Wars. This includes her cameo in Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures as well. It’s currently unclear if Maz will return to the Star Wars screen in the future, but given her age, wisdom, and importance, it’s certainly possible that audiences will see Maz again.

Chirrut Îmwe

First Appeared In: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Close

Chirrut Îmwe is yet another Rogue One character with surprisingly little screen time, in his case just 10 total minutes. Chirrut appeared only in Rogue One, but he made a major impact. Although he was not Force-sensitive, Chirrut’s knowledge of and respect for the Force was admirable, and in many ways he feels like one of the best representations of a character, Jedi or not, engaging with the Force.

Chirrut’s knowledge of and respect for the Force was admirable.

Chirrut’s refrain throughout Rogue One, “I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me” was a wonderful way for the movie—not all that linked to the Jedi, especially compared to other Star Wars movies—to maintain a connection to the Force without it taking over. Chirrut also had some brilliant laugh lines in Rogue One, including when he was captured along with the other heroes and had a bag placed over his head. In response, Chirrut said, “Are you kidding me? I’m blind,” which was a surprising laugh line in an otherwise quite grim movie.

4

Maarva Andor

First Appeared In: Andor

Close

Maarva Andor was not in Rogue One, although she is the mother of Cassian Andor, but her debut in Andor season 1 proved what a powerhouse she was. Maarva was revealed to be Cassian’s adoptive mother in Andor, having found him on a ship when he was a young boy. The two grew incredibly close, and it was clear they truly loved one another. Maarva was also a valiant Rebel in her own right, leaving behind a message encouraging the oppressed to rise up against the Empire in the wake of her death.

Even in light of Andor season 2 being just around the corner, Maarva is unlikely to return to Star Wars. Not only did she die in Andor season 1, but also, her story feels complete. She could theoretically return in flashback, but that seems unlikely. It’s safe to assume that Maarva’s total screen time in Star Wars will therefore remain at just 14 minutes, although that low number is certainly not representative of her significant impact on Cassian and on the galaxy more broadly.

3

Shmi Skywalker

First Appeared In: Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Close

Another Star Wars mother, Shmi Skywalker has just 10 minutes of total screen time in Star Wars, despite her massive influence. Not only was Shmi the mother of Anakin Skywalker, which means she gave birth to the Chosen One, but also, her death unquestionably helped set in motion countless larger events in the galaxy, most notably her son’s fall to the dark side. On the more positive side, Shmi’s decision to marry Cliegg Lars also meant that Luke had a family to go back to following the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

Like many characters on this list, Shmi is rather unlikely to appear again. Technically, she had another appearance in The Clone Wars, although that was really the Son manipulating Anakin by appearing as his mother—it wasn’t truly Shmi at all. Even if Shmi is never seen again in Star Wars, though, as the first member of the Skywalker family tree (at least that has been shown so far), her legacy endures.

2

Owen Lars

First Appeared In: A New Hope

Close

One of the more shocking inclusions on this list is Uncle Owen. Although he died very early on in A New Hope, Owen has since appeared in Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Despite those many appearances, Uncle Owen has had just 13 total minutes of screen time throughout Star Wars.

This number doesn’t accurately capture the influence Uncle Owen has had in Star Wars.

Yet again, this number doesn’t accurately capture the impact Uncle Owen has had in Star Wars. Luke Skywalker inherited many traits from his mother and father, but he was raised by Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Already, their influence was clear in the original trilogy. However, Obi-Wan Kenobi revealed in much greater detail how much Owen and Beru truly loved Luke as their own. The show also confirmed that the two were incredibly brave, standing up to an Inquisitor to save Luke.

1

Rose Tico

First Appeared In: Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Close

The most disappointing of all the characters who have less than 15 minutes of screen time in Star Wars is Rose Tico, who absolutely deserved better. Rose first appeared in The Last Jedi as someone who was grieving her sister, who had died bravely fighting for the Resistance, and felt she wasn’t on the same level as ‘true’ Resistance fighters, such as Finn. Over the course of the movie, however, Rose discovered how brave and strong she really was, even risking her life to save Finn in the end.

Unfortunately, Rose was almost entirely sidelined in The Rise of Skywalker, appearing very rarely and playing no major role in the movie’s plot. While many sequel trilogy characters suffered a similar fate in The Rise of Skywalker, Rose’s absence was the most obvious and disappointing. Of all the Star Wars characters who have had less than 15 minutes of screen time, Rose Tico is easily the one that stings the most.
