The ninth season of the thrilling American crime drama series “The Blacklist” premiered on NBC on October 21, 2021 and concluded on May 27, 2022, with a total of 22 episodes. Notably, this season is the first without Jon Bokenkamp as showrunner, with Megan Boone playing Elizabeth Keen. The Blacklist Season 9 Finale Explained

Red finally met Marvin in the Season 9 finale of The Blacklist. Although Red could have killed him at the time, he chose to hold off and let Marvin out on his own terms. Shortly after Marvin was released from prison, he shot himself in his car. However, before ending his life, Marvin had one more thing to do.

He addresses Wu Jing before leaving prison and reveals that Red is a detective who has been working for the FBI for many years. Red is the reason why Wu Jing and many other blacklists are in jail. Marvin then provided Wu Jing with a blacklist that had been put away by Red.

In the final scene of the Season 9 finale of The Blacklist, Wu Jing successfully escapes from prison. However, he revealed that he has no plans to return home now. Instead, Wu Jing wants to kill Raymond Reddington. Wu Jing knew he couldn’t do it alone, but he didn’t have to. He has a whole list of criminals that Red has wronged.

The Blacklist Season 9 Review

Season 9 of the show revolves around the shocking death of Elizabeth Keen. In the season eight finale, Keen is killed shortly after he hesitates to shoot Red and take over his criminal empire. Season 9 takes place two years after her murder, with the former task force members on the run and Red’s whereabouts unknown. Dembe, Red’s bodyguard, goes undercover for the FBI to investigate the murderer who caused Keen’s death.

Throughout season nine, Red faces various blacklists and obstacles in his quest for justice. Not yet retired but still determined, Cooper recruits members of the task force to help him uncover the truth. Eventually, Red discovered that his long-time attorney and friend Marvin Gerald was responsible for Keane’s death. Marvin disagreed with Red’s decision to make Keen the next Blacklist master, and orchestrated her murder and Cooper’s blackmail.

The season ended with Red finally answering the question of who was responsible for Keane’s death. Red confronts Marvin, who succumbs to paranoia and takes his own life. Before his death, Marvin revealed Red’s identity as an informant and provided a copy of the Blacklist to Season 1 Blacklist member Wu Jing, jeopardizing Red’s safety.

Red then ended Elizabeth Keen’s storyline and left the city. The task force gathered at Keene’s grave to share fond memories of their time with her. Agent Park reveals her pregnancy and leaves the scene, while Agent Alam plans to take a vacation.

However, the season ends with Wu Jing escaping from prison and vowing to find and kill Raymond Reddington. He also claimed to have a list of others willing to join the fight. The future remains uncertain and we await the next season in 2023 to see how the story unfolds.
