The Last of Us Season 2 in development

The TV series The Last of Us is produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. Druckmann also produced the video game adaptation of the series. HBO decided to produce the second season of the series on January 27, 2023.

This comes less than two weeks after the premiere of the first season, which told the story of the game The Last of Us and its expansion The Last of Us: The Last of Us Part II. But the second season will tell the sequel, The Last of Us Part II.

Druckmann and Mazin did not want to add additional content between the games. They thought that Part II could be made into multiple seasons, but they did not want the show to end the story of the games. When writing the first season, Mazin and Druckmann made sure the characters would remain consistent with those in Part II.

They did this to prevent the show from having more seasons. In January 2024, they said Druckmann, Mazin, and Peter Hoar would direct again. New directors for the second season include Kate Herron, Nina Lopez-Corrado, Mark Mylod, and Stephen Williams.
