Suddenly, a larger megalodon emerges from the depths of the ocean, consuming the first megalodon. This new Meg proves to be even more formidable and dangerous than its predecessor. It goes on a rampage, attacking and killing several scientists and destroying the Mana One’s new vessel. The crew is forced to regroup and seek shelter within the undersea research facility.
Jack Morris, the billionaire owner of Mana One, informs his employees that he has informed the local governments about the Meg, essentially passing the responsibility of dealing with the creature to them. However, unbeknownst to the rest of the crew, Morris secretly hires a team of mercenaries to handle the situation.
In an unfortunate turn of events, the mercenaries accidentally blow up a whale with depth charges, which only agitates the Meg further. In the chaos that ensues, the Meg devours Morris, while the mercenaries flee in terror.
With their situation growing increasingly dire, Jonas Taylor and the remaining scientists decide to take matters into their own hands. As the Meg launches a devastating attack on a crowded beach, claiming the lives of hundreds, the crew devises a risky plan.
Using a whale call to lure the Meg, they successfully draw the creature closer. Jonas takes a bold and self-sacrificing action by deliberately crashing his submersible into the Meg’s eye, delivering a fatal blow. The Meg’s blood attracts a frenzy of normal-sized sharks, which converge upon the wounded creature, tearing it apart and devouring it.
With the Meg finally defeated, Jonas and the surviving scientists celebrate their hard-fought victory. They plan a well-deserved vacation and take time to appreciate their achievements. However, as the camera pans into the water, the distant sound of another megalodon shark can be heard, hinting at the possibility of more giant sharks emerging from the trench.
It’s important to note that the movie’s ending differs somewhat from the ending depicted in the original novel, “Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror.” However, both versions share the common theme of leaving room for potential sequels and the emergence of additional giant sharks.
Overall, the ending of “The Meg” is filled with action, suspense, and a satisfying culmination of the conflict between humanity and the monstrous megalodon. While the immediate threat is eliminated, the possibility of further encounters and the continuation of the franchise looms, leaving audiences curious about what lies ahead in future installments.
The Meg Plot
The story of “The Meg” follows Jonas Taylor, a rescue diver who faces a traumatic incident when an unidentified creature attacks a nuclear submarine he is attempting to save. Taylor is forced to leave two crew members behind in order to ensure the safety of the rest. However, his account of the events is dismissed as pressure-induced psychosis by Dr. Heller, another survivor.
Five years later, billionaire Jack Morris meets Dr. Minway Zhang and his daughter Suyin at the underwater research facility called Mana One. They plan a mission to explore the deepest section of the Mariana Trench, hidden beneath a hydrogen sulfide thermocline. The mission is led by Taylor’s ex-wife Lori and scientist Toshi. During their exploration, they encounter an array of unknown flora and fauna, but they lose contact with Mana One after being attacked by a large, unidentified creature.
Taylor’s friend Mac suggests bringing him back to attempt a rescue. Reluctantly, Taylor agrees after hearing a recording of the dialogue between Lori, her crew, and Mana One. While Suyin tries to rescue the trapped crew, she is attacked by a giant squid. Just as the squid is about to crush her submersible, it is killed by a massive shark. Taylor breaches the thermocline and reaches the sunken submersible. However, when the shark returns and attacks, Toshi sacrifices himself to aid the others’ escape.
Back at Mana One, the crew discovers that the giant shark is a megalodon, a prehistoric species believed to be extinct. They realize the Meg pursued them through the thermocline break they caused and decide to track and poison it. The Meg destroys shark fin-fishing ships before Taylor shoots it with a tracker. Suyin enters a shark-proof tank to administer the poison but faces danger when the shark attacks the cage. Despite the damage, Suyin manages to poison the shark, and Taylor saves her.

The crew regroups at Mana One, where Morris reveals his plan to let the local governments handle the Meg while secretly hiring mercenaries to kill it. However, the mercenaries accidentally kill a whale, prompting the Meg’s pursuit. Morris falls overboard and is eaten, revealing his deceit.
The crew decides to take matters into their own hands. The Meg attacks a crowded beach, prompting the Mana One crew to divert its attention. Taylor and Suyin work together to kill the Meg, but Suyin is forced to save the others when a helicopter crashes. Taylor damages the Meg’s eye with his submersible, attracting modern sharks that devour the dying creature.
Taylor reunites with the crew on a passing boat and considers a vacation with Suyin and her daughter. In the water, the sound of another Meg is heard, suggesting that more than two of these creatures have escaped the trench.

The Meg Spoilers
Spoiler alert! We will be discussing the conclusion of “The Meg.” If you haven’t watched it yet or prefer to remain unaware, are currently eating, or are a fan of “The Office,” please refrain from reading further. “The Meg” features the unleashing of a prehistoric megalodon shark that wreaks havoc with a notably high number of gruesome deaths before being defeated by action hero Jason Statham.
Rainn Wilson portrays the character Jack Morris, an arrogant billionaire in “The Meg,” who practically invites a thrilling shark attack. Fortunately, Morris becomes one of the victims, meeting a spectacular demise that even pleased Wilson himself. Wilson expresses, “I hope my demise ranks among the greatest shark deaths of all time. If you don’t get devoured in a shark movie, there’s a chance you’ll be in the sequel. But if you do get eaten, well, what a way to go.”
In the movie, Morris ventures into the sea under the cover of darkness, accompanied by a team of mercenaries, with the intention of eliminating the colossal prehistoric super-shark that poses a threat to his significant underwater exploration investment. The megalodon targets another victim in “The Meg.”
Initially, it appears that the creature is killed by explosives dropped into the water, causing it to float to the surface. However, when Morris sends someone to retrieve the shark’s teeth as a trophy, they discover that the carcass is actually that of a dead whale, and the real megalodon is approaching them.
As they speed away, Morris falls from the boat and frantically swims toward the floating whale to escape the water. However, the shark takes a massive bite, circles back, and completely swallows Morris. “I’m not afraid of being devoured by a shark because it would be an extraordinary way to go,” says Wilson. “I’m currently 52, and I’m prepared to meet my maker. I’ve had a good run, especially if it involves being eaten by a shark.”
His demise could have been even more gruesome. In the original version of the film, the shark initially bit off Morris’s entire lower half before taking another significant bite—this time, the upper half. Director Jon Turteltaub reluctantly edited the graphic scene to avoid an R rating for “The Meg.”

Wilson was unaware that the scene had been trimmed. He expresses his disappointment, stating, “Really? In the version I saw, I was torn in half. I’m disappointed, especially since I’m learning this from a USA TODAY reporter. But I suppose they couldn’t show half a body hanging from a bloody whale. Maybe it’ll be included on the DVD.”
He does recall the experience of shooting the scene on a 50-foot foam whale covered in blood, guts, and blubber. “They would spray it with more blood and gore,” he recounts. “They had built handholds within the blubber so I could pull myself up.” In the end, the protagonist Jonas Taylor, played by Statham, manages to vanquish the killer shark by slicing its massive midsection with his submarine. The resulting blood attracts hungry sharks, which tear the megalodon apart in a feeding frenzy.
Turteltaub assures that this particular creature is definitively finished. He remarks, “Well, this one is dead. But if the movie performs well, who knows? There’s never just one of any animal. If this film grosses over $100 million, you’ll start seeing megs everywhere.”
The Meg Summary
“The Meg” is an action-packed thriller that follows the story of Jonas Taylor, a skilled rescue diver. The movie begins with Taylor attempting to save the crew of a nuclear submarine from an unidentified creature that is attacking the vessel. However, Taylor is forced to leave two crew members behind in order to ensure the survival of the rest.
Five years later, billionaire Jack Morris collaborates with Dr. Minway Zhang and his daughter Suyin at the underwater research facility known as Mana One. They embark on a mission to explore the deepest part of the Mariana Trench, which is hidden beneath a thermocline of hydrogen sulfide. The mission is led by Taylor’s ex-wife, Lori, and scientist Toshi.
During their exploration, they discover a vast array of previously unseen flora and fauna below the thermocline. However, their mission takes a dangerous turn when they are attacked by a large, unidentified creature, causing them to lose contact with Mana One. Taylor’s friend, Mac, suggests bringing Taylor back into action to attempt a rescue.
Reluctantly, Taylor agrees after hearing a recording that confirms the dire situation. Meanwhile, Suyin takes it upon herself to rescue the trapped crew members but is attacked by a massive squid. Just as she is about to be crushed, an enormous shark intervenes and saves her. Motivated by the turn of events, Taylor breaches the thermocline and reaches the sunken submersible.
However, their relief is short-lived as the shark returns and attacks the submersible before they can complete the evacuation. In a selfless act, Toshi sacrifices himself to buy time for the others to escape. Back at Mana One, they discover that the shark is a megalodon, a prehistoric species believed to be extinct.
The crew realizes that the megalodon pursued them through the temporary break they caused in the thermocline, and they resolve to track and kill it. The megalodon wreaks havoc, destroying shark fin-fishing ships and endangering lives. Taylor enters the water to shoot the shark with a tracker, and Suyin gets inside a shark-proof tank to inject the creature with poison.
Their plan encounters complications when the megalodon attacks the tank, causing damage and endangering Suyin’s life. Despite the challenges, she manages to administer the poison just as Taylor rescues her. The megalodon returns for a final assault but gets entangled in the cage’s line and dies from the effects of the poison.
However, their victory is short-lived as an even larger megalodon, the same one that attacked them earlier, emerges and devours the dead shark and Toshi. The crew regroups at Mana One, where they mourn the loss of Zhang, who sustained critical injuries during the encounter.
Unbeknownst to the crew, Morris reveals his true intentions. He claims to have informed the local governments about the megalodon but secretly hires a mercenary team to kill it. The mercenaries accidentally cause the death of a whale instead. Realizing the megalodon is still a threat, the crew decides to take matters into their own hands.
The megalodon attacks a crowded beach, causing chaos and claiming numerous lives. The Mana One crew uses a whale call to divert the shark’s attention toward them. Taylor and Suyin board submersibles and work together to kill the megalodon. However, a helicopter crash forces the crew into the water, splitting their focus.
Taylor manages to wound the megalodon with his damaged submersible and stabs it in the eye. The creature’s blood attracts a frenzy of modern-day sharks, which devour the dying megalodon. Taylor reunites with the surviving crew members on a passing wedding boat, and they contemplate taking a vacation together. As the movie concludes, the sound of another megalodon is heard, hinting that more than two of these giant creatures have escaped the depths of the trench.
