Tokyo Vice Season 2 trailer

Tokyo Vice Season 2

Tokyo Vice is based on Jack Adelstein’s memoir about his time as a police patrolman and investigating the yakuza in 1990s Tokyo. Although some have questioned the accuracy of Adelstein’s memoir, we’ll address that question at another time.

In the first season, Jack gets a job at a well-known Tokyo newspaper, and at first he has a hard time, but eventually develops close connections with the gangsters that allow him to explore the gang world. These connections include his editor Eimi, detective Katagiri, gang member Sato, and American hostess Samantha.

While investigating a suspected suicide, Jack discovers a connection to the underworld. However, the closer he gets, the more dangerous it becomes. Samantha works hard to make money for her club, but her gang ties and troubled past make her a challenge. Her missing friend Paulina, who was murdered by Jack, has people worried about her.

As Sato rises through the ranks of the yakuza, he’s conflicted about his chosen profession. In the season finale, Sato is attacked and left for dead, and as he grows increasingly frustrated with his superiors, suspicions begin to mount of whether this was the work of a rival yakuza family or an inside job. Meanwhile, the fate of corrupt cop Hitoshi Miyamoto remains unclear as he’s taken in by his former yakuza employers, suggesting he could be in trouble.
