In 2016, the post of ICC President was abolished and the position of President was redefined as an honorary position. According to the ICC rules on the election of the President, the election process requires 16 votes, with a simple majority of nine votes (51%) required to win. This is a change from the previous rules, which required the winner to obtain a two-thirds majority. Jay Shah, who currently heads the ICC’s influential Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) sub-committee, is a key figure in cricket governance and has strong support from the majority of the 16 voting members.
