More about Olympic medals

In February 2024, Tony Estanguet, president of the Paris 2024 organization, unveiled the medals for the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games. The obverse of the medals features a hexagonal piece of scrap iron from the original construction of the Eiffel Tower, with the Olympic logo engraved on it. The French mint, the Monsieur de Paris, will produce 5,084 medals, with designs crafted by luxury jewelry house Chaumet.

The other side of the medal depicts Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, at the Panathenaic Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896. The Parthenon and the Eiffel Tower can also be seen in the background on both sides of the medal. Each medal weighs 455-529 grams (16-19 ounces), is 85 millimeters (3.3 inches) in diameter and 9.2 millimeters (0.36 inches) thick. The gold medal is composed of 98.8% silver and 1.13% gold, while the bronze medal is made of copper, zinc and tin.
