Vivek Joshi Biography, Education Qualification of Haryana Election Commissioner

Vivek Joshi was born on May 21, 1966 and is an Indian Administrative Services (IAS) official in the 1989 Haryana cadre batch. Joshi was newly elected on February 17, 2025 as the Indian Election Commissioner, with a glorious career at the state and central government levels.

Educational Qualifications

Josh’s education qualification is excellent. He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. Subsequently, the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade Industry (IIFT), a postgraduate diploma in International Business in New Delhi. He further earned his master’s degree and a doctorate degree. International Economics from the Swiss Institute of International and Development. This reliable educational background provides him with the analytical skills needed to work in public administration.

Career Overview

Vivek Joshi’s professional experience covers several important positions in the administrative hierarchy of India. Prior to his most recent position as Election Commissioner, he was Chief Secretary for Haryana, who took over after his retirement at TVSN Prasad in November 2024. The Cabinet Appointment Committee made it possible for him to return to Haryana, which cleared his repatriation from the request of the central government.

Between January 2019 and his return to Haryana, Joshi has held many important central positions, including:
