In the series finale of Waterloo Road, which aired on June 27, 2023, viewers witnessed the tragic death of Danny Lewis, the character played by Adam Abbou. Danny died after being caught in a fire at the school that was started by a character named Miles Massey.
While Miles, his mother, and another character named Samia try to escape the fire, Danny is not so lucky and eventually dies in the fire. This marks the end of Adam Abu’s two-series run on the show.
Looking back on this emotional experience, Abu said that he had known Danny’s fate since filming the sixth episode. He expressed his deep attachment to the character, mentioning the changes he experienced in his appearance and mentality while playing Danny.
While Abramovich admits to wishing his character had a happier ending, he appreciates the unpredictability of the storytelling and says “happy endings are boring.” He stressed that Waterloo Road was famous for its impactful and dramatic conclusion.
Danny and Samia’s romantic relationship is the central focus of the series, similar to a modern-day Romeo and Juliet. Despite the heartbreak, Abu believes Danny’s heroism throughout the series left a lasting impact, making him an important character in Waterloo Road.
