One of Haas’ strengths in the past has been his power hitting, but unfortunately, it has diminished this season. With only 3 home runs and a .087 slugging percentage (as indicated by his isolated power, or ISO), his ability to generate extra-base hits has been significantly reduced. One notable issue that contributed to Haas’ struggles was his difficulty hitting his fastball.
While he has excelled against fastballs in the past, his batting average against fastballs has dropped to .235 this season. Additionally, he’s struggled with breaking balls, dropping from a .261 average against them last season to just .200 in 2023. Haas currently appears to be experiencing timing issues, causing him to struggle with pitch recognition and contact.
Eric Haas Salary
Eric Haas’ salary for the 2023 season is approximately $700,000 as part of a one-year contract with the Detroit Tigers. While his salary is considered modest in Major League Baseball, it was a significant increase from the $710,400 he earned the year before. The raise comes as a result of Haas’ breakout campaign in 2022, where he posted impressive statistics including a .254 batting average, .305 on-base percentage, .443 slugging percentage, 14 home runs and 44 RBIs.
