An interview with Studio Pierrot’s general manager Kiero Itsumi added to the uncertainty, indicating that the studio is focused on producing globally competitive anime and may adopt a seasonal model. The focus on projects such as Bleach: Thousand Years of Blood War has exacerbated the disappointment of Boruto fans.
Fans expected the game to be delayed due to a lack of comic material, but if the rumored return timeline is accurate, then it will exceed expectations. However, it must be noted that this information is speculative and comes from a reliable source in the community, and should be taken with a pinch of salt until it is officially confirmed.
Will the Boruto anime return in 2024?
On February 15, 2024, an anime leaker claimed that the Boruto anime, which was previously rumored to be taking a short break, will now allegedly be delayed for a few years and may return in 2027 or 2028.
The Boruto anime started airing in April 2017, and will air one episode per week until March 2023, when it ends with episode 293. Fans have been anxiously awaiting news on the anime’s return, and while some may think this leak is fake, the leaker has a history of providing accurate information, including details about Boruto episode 189 in advance.

Boruto Naruto Next Generations
Boruto is a Japanese manga series that is a sequel and spin-off of Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto. The series was originally titled Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and began monthly serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in May 2016, before moving to V Jump in July 2019.
In November 2020, Masashi Kishimoto replaced Ukyo Kodachi as screenwriter. The series ended the first part in April 2023 and returned in August with the second part titled Boruto: Double Blue Uzumaki. Boruto tells the story of Uzumaki Naruto’s son Boruto Uzumaki and his ninja team.
The concept originated from Shueisha’s proposal for a sequel to Naruto, which was initially rejected by Kishimoto. The anime adaptation, which ran for 293 episodes and was supervised by Ukyo Kodachi, was widely praised for its use of characters. While the manga focuses on a more serious narrative, the anime begins as a prequel. By January 2017, Shueisha had sold one million copies of the manga series.
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations
Part 1: “Naruto Next Generations” tells the story of how Uzumaki Boruto, the son of the seventh generation Hokage Naruto Uzumaki, copes with challenges in Konohagakure. Boruto joins the team led by Sarutobi Konohamaru, along with Uchiha Sarada and Mitsuki.
The story begins with the threat of Momoshiki and Otsutsuki Kinshiki, sparking a rescue mission for Naruto. Boruto, Sasuke, and Kage face powerful enemies that reveal Boruto’s potential and label him with the mysterious “Karma”.
In Part 2: The Twin Blue Whirlpools, Kawaki becomes a member of the Uzumaki Clan to protect him from Kara. As the story progresses, Naruto and Sasuke are defeated by Jigen, resulting in Naruto being sealed and Sasuke escaping. Boruto, possessed by Momoshiki, is drawn into a battle and suffers heavy losses. The plot intensifies as karma, Otsutsuki’s plans, and a rebellion within Kara are revealed.
