Indian Foreign Officials (IFS) official Nidhi Tewari has been appointed as the private secretary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Personnel announced in an order on Sunday.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) formally announced the nomination, which was approved by the Cabinet Appointment Committee.

Who is Nidhi Tewari?

Nidhi Tewari is an Indian Foreign Force (IFS) official from the Mahmoorganj community in Varanasi. She finished 96th in the Civil Service Examination in 2013 and initially served as an assistant commissioner in Varanasi before joining Foreign Service in India.

What is Nidhi Tewari’s salary?

Tewari currently serves as Deputy Secretary of PMO at Level 12 of the salary matrix. Her term in this position will continue until the end of her current work.

Nidhi Tiwari, as the Prime Minister’s private secretary, will pay Rs 1,44,200 per month based on the salary matrix 14. With that, she will also receive other benefits such as Dearness allowance, housing allowance and travel allowance, bringing her monthly salary to about Rs 2 million.

The role of Nidhi Tewari in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)

Tewari began serving as secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in 2022. On January 6, 2023, she was promoted to deputy secretary. She plays a key role in the “Foreign and Security” sector and reports directly to National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.
