In Poppy Playtime, you play as a person who used to work at the toy company Playtime Co. After receiving a letter from an employee who disappeared ten years ago, you return to the old and empty toy factory. Upon arriving at the factory, you discover that the toys in the factory are alive, and they are not friendly – they are actually mean to you.
Your main goal is to figure out how to get out of the factory. As you explore the factory, you’ll come across VHS tapes that tell more of the story and give you a deeper understanding of what happened.
The game requires solving various puzzles to progress. To solve these puzzles, you may need to use a tool called GrabPack. It is like a backpack with two retractable hands that can grab things from a distance. These hands can perform different tasks, such as pulling objects, reaching for distant items, conducting electricity, and opening specific doors.
In Chapter 2 of the game, the GrabPack becomes even more versatile. You can use it to cross gaps, and with the special green hands you get during the game, you can transfer electricity between different power sources. The gameplay is therefore a combination of exploration, solving puzzles, and using the GrabPack to interact with the environment and escape from the living toys in the factory.
