Who is Samitha Dulan Kodithuwakku? The Sri Lankan Paralympian Who Won the Silver Medal in the Men’s F64 Javelin Finals!

Paralympics: Samita Duran Kodituwakku is a Sri Lankan Paralympic track and field athlete who won a silver medal in the men’s F64 javelin final at the 2024 Paralympic Games. He dedicated his win to his country and everyone who supported him along the way.

The track and field athlete set a world record in the men’s F64 javelin at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, with a personal best of 65.61 meters. Duran is a second warrant officer in the Sri Lanka Army Military Police.

He won bronze at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships in Paris and silver at the 2024 World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan, breaking his own previous world record.

Who is Samitha Dulan?

Samitha Dulan is a track and field athlete who recently won a silver medal at the 2024 Paralympics.

Born on July 10, 1990, Duran began his athletic career in 2007 while still in school. He played the sport as a hobby. But he was very serious about the sport and trained 28 hours a week. He made his debut at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Sri Lanka, held in Indonesia.

Although Duran was born without any disabilities, he started participating in para sports in 2017 after injuring his right leg in a tragic motorcycle accident. His philosophy in life is “nothing is impossible”.

After setting a new world record by throwing the javelin to 66.49 meters in the men’s F44 javelin at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan, Duran hopes to inspire others to never give up on their dreams.

2024 Paralympics: Who wins gold?

Indian Paralympic javelin thrower Sumit Antil won the gold medal in the F64 category with a throw of 70.59m, breaking his previous personal record of 68.55m set at the Tokyo Paralympics. Duran won the silver medal with a throw of 67.03m. Australian athlete Mikael Brian finished third with a throw of 64.89m and won the bronze medal in the F64 category at the Paralympics.
