Seattle Sounders FC is a professional men’s soccer club based in Seattle, Washington, that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as part of the Western Conference. The club was founded on November 13, 2007, and began competing as an MLS expansion team in 2009. It is a Phoenix club that succeeded the second-tier club that competed in the APSL, A-League, and USL First Division from 1994 to 2008. The team also carries on the legacy of the original Sounders, who competed in the NASL from 1974 to 1983.
