Her parents are British actors Tony Booth and Gail Howard. When Cherie was 8 years old, her parents separated, and she and her younger sister, Lyndsey, were raised by their mother and grandmother, Vera Booth. Cherie attended Catholic schools in Crosby, Merseyside, and achieved excellent results at Seafield Convent Grammar.
She later studied law at the London School of Economics, graduating with first class honours, and became a successful lawyer, specializing in employment, discrimination and public law.
