Development of the series began in May 2020, when Reardon pitched the idea to Disney Brand Television. In 2021, showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shortz, along with director James Bobin, were announced. Walker Scobell was cast in the lead role in January 2022, with Jeffries and Simhadri joining the cast in May. Filming began in Vancouver in June 2022 and ended in February 2023.
