About Cherie Blair
Cherie Blair, born September 23, 1954, is a British barrister and writer. She rose to prominence as the wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, whom she married on March 31, 1980. Cherie, known professionally as Cherie Booth, grew up on Merseyside and attended Seafield Convent Grammar and later studied law at the London School of Economics.
She excelled academically and received a first class honors degree. Cherie was called to the Bar in 1976 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1995. Throughout her legal career she has specialized in the areas of employment, discrimination and public law.
In addition to her legal work, Cherie is involved in various philanthropic activities, including founding the Cherie Blair Women’s Foundation in 2008 to support female entrepreneurs in developing countries. Her contribution was recognized and in 2013 she was awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to women’s issues and charity.
