Will there be a second season of Accel World?

As of now, there has been no official confirmation for the production of Accel World Season 2. The first season concluded in 2012 to a positive response, and fans have been eager to see a sequel to conclude the anime series. Although the light novel series is still ongoing and spin-off movies and video games have been released, the prospects for a second season remain unclear.

Although the author expressed interest in producing a next season as early as 2014, Sunrise, the animation studio responsible for Accel World, was busy with other projects at the time, thus delaying any official announcement. There has been no news of a second season since the end of the first season, suggesting that there may not be immediate plans for a sequel. However, 2019 marks the tenth anniversary of the series, which gives people hope for a possible renewal.

Fans are advised to treat any speculation with caution, as there is no release date or official confirmation for Accel World Season 2. If the sequel goes ahead, it will likely cover the remaining volumes of the light novel series, continuing the protagonist’s quest to meet the creator of the game. As of now, a return in 2019 seems unlikely due to Sunrise’s involvement in various projects.

Accel World Plot

The story of Accel World revolves around Haruyuki Arita, a short, overweight boy who is constantly bullied at Umego Middle School. To escape the hardships of reality, Haruyuki uses a neural linker to immerse himself in the school’s local network, Cyberspace, playing virtual squash on his own. His skilled gaming skills catch the eye of Kuroyukihime, the school’s popular and intelligent Student Council Vice President.

After Kuroyukihime helps Haru fight a bully, she introduces him to Brain Burst, a secret program that speeds up the human mind and makes time appear to stand still. Haru discovers that Brain Burst is not just a program, but an augmented reality massively multiplayer online (ARMMO) fighting game. In this game, individuals engage in intense duels to win burst points, which can be used to gain accelerated abilities in the real world.

Kuroyuki asks for Haru’s help to defeat the powerful “Pure Six Kings” and ultimately meet the game’s creator to uncover the game’s true purpose and reach level 10 in Brain Burst. Haru and Kuroyuki face challenges in the accelerated world as their avatars “Silver Crow” and “Black Lotus”. Along the way, they gather allies, fight opponents, and strengthen their bonds with each other while working towards their ultimate goal: reach the highest level within the game and discover the intentions behind the game’s creator and his true purpose.

The recent lack of promotional events, merchandise releases, and a slowdown in light novel production have fueled suspicions.
