I Stand on a Million Lives is a Japanese manga written by Naoki Yamakawa and illustrated by Akinari Nao. The series was launched in June 2016 and takes place in Kodansha’s shonen manga magazine Bessatsu Shonen Magazine. Kodansha America holds the North American rights to the manga.

The first season aired from October to December 2020, and the second season will continue from July to September 2021. “I Stand on a Million Lives” explores themes of survival and exploration, captivating audiences with comic strips and fascinating animation depictions.

Will there be a season 3 of Million Lives?

The future of A Million Lives Season 3 remains uncertain as of the last update in 2024. Despite the series’ popularity during its first two seasons in 2020 and 2021, a third season has yet to be officially announced.

The lack of confirmation is due to the poor sales of the anime’s Blu-ray and manga, coupled with the inclusion of anime original content in the second half of Season 2. Financially, the series has faced challenges, with both seasons having low sales – less than 500 Blu-ray copies each, and the latest manga volume (Volume 17) selling less than 50,000 copies.

Furthermore, the scarcity of merchandise further suggests limited commercial success. Given these circumstances, doubts were cast on the possibility of a third season, especially given the prevalence of the anime’s original ending in the absence of further plans for an adaptation.

For fans eager to continue the story, it is recommended to explore the manga, which Kodansha revealed is nearing its end. 16 of the 17 volumes have been published in English, providing fans with a way to get deeper into the story. All in all, while hopes for a third season remain, current signs point to a challenging outlook, making exploring the manga a more promising avenue for fans.

Standing on the million-life plot

“Standing on a Million Lives” tells the story of Yusuke Yotsuya, Iu Shindo and Hisa Hakozaki who are brought into a mysterious game world by a half-faced creature. They have to complete tasks within a specified time to gain a unique kind of immortality – as long as at least one of them survives the time limit, they will be resurrected after death.

The trio’s journey expands as Yuuka Yukari, Keita Torii, and Glenda Carter join them on their quests. After completing their quests, they return to real life, but when new quests arise, they are pulled back into the game world, long after their previous encounters.
