The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced the 15-player squad for the T20 World Cup. Babar Azam will captain the team, having re-emerged as the white-ball captain earlier this year.

In a somewhat surprising move, Pakistan announced it would retain its squad for the T20I tour of Ireland and England just hours before the International Cricket Council’s deadline to submit its final squad. Notably, no players from outside that group were included. Hasan Ali, who was released back to Warwickshire earlier this week, was left out along with Irrfan Khan and Agha Salman.

Pakistan T20 World Cup Squad 2024
Pakistan is currently playing a bilateral series against England in preparation for the upcoming mega tournament. Most of the players in the bilateral series squad are expected to form the core of the team that will travel to the Caribbean and the United States for the T20 World Cup.
Pakistan has been drawn in Group A along with India, Ireland, Canada and co-hosts the United States in this tournament. Their first match is scheduled against the United States in Dallas on June 6. Here are the complete squads for the ICC T20 World Cup:

One of the key players in the Pakistan team is bowler Haris Rauf who has earned a spot in the squad after recovering from an injury that had kept him out since January. Besides, Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub and Usman Khan are also set to make their debut in the T20 World Cup.

No replacements were announced. Pakistan has had one of the best records since the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007. Under the captaincy of Younis Khan, Pakistan won the tournament in 2009 and reached the final twice, in 2007 under the captaincy of Shoaib Malik and in 2022 under the captaincy of Babar Azam. In addition, Pakistan reached the semi-finals in 2010, 2012 and 2021, performing well in the tournament.
