10 Unfinished Star Wars Stories I’m Desperate To See Continue

The ever-evolving nature of the Star Wars franchise has allowed for seemingly limitless storytelling avenues to be opened up over the years, and there are so many that I still want to explore further. With the high volume of television streaming content Star Wars has been producing recently, there have been many different story threads that have been started, but haven’t quite been finished yet. I haven’t lost hope, however, because the Star Wars franchise does at least have a tendency to pick up unfinished projects – even many years later.

Star Wars loves to build on itself and tie up loose ends, as seen with Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 wrapping up the animated series in 2020 and the comics based on 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Sometimes, Star Wars just needs a little more time to decide where exactly they want to go with certain characters and storylines. There are still plenty of examples in Star Wars today, especially with all their new TV shows, but the following 10 are currently unfinished stories that I desperately need Star Wars to continue in some way.

What Happened To Cobb Vanth After The Book Of Boba Fett

He Survives, But What Happens Next?

Close

Star Wars really went full Western with The Mandalorian season 1, which made the introduction of Timothy Olyphant’s Cobb Vanth in The Mandalorian season 2 a perfect fit for the franchise’s first live-action TV show. His character, lifted from Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath trilogy, quickly became a fan-favorite, which ultimately led to his return in The Book of Boba Fett. The marshal of Mos Pelgo/Freetown, however, was gunned down in a showdown with the famed bounty hunter Cad Bane, though the series’ post-credits scene reveals he actually survived the ordeal with Boba Fett’s help.

It’s now been 3 years since the post-credits scene, yet nothing has happened with Cobb Vanth in recent years. The marshal failed to appear in The Mandalorian season 3, and seeing as The Book of Boba Fett season 2 never happened, either, he hasn’t had a good opportunity yet to make his return. It may seem like a small thing to some, and certainly compared to others on this list, but as someone who loves Cobb Vanth’s character and his relationship with Din Djarin, I’m desperate to see what the revived marshal is up to nowadays.

Quinlan Vos’ Contribution To The Hidden Path

This Fan-Favorite Jedi Deserves To Have His Story Told

Close

While the Obi-Wan Kenobi series mainly concerned itself with telling the story of Obi-Wan’s rematch with Darth Vader prior to the events of the original Star Wars (later retitled A New Hope), it added some incredibly interesting lore to the galaxy, such as the Hidden Path. As Tala took Obi-Wan and Leia into her Path shelter on Mapuzo, the Jedi Master noticed some familiar names etched into the wood there. The most notable name belonged to none other than the Kiffar Jedi Quinlan Vos.

One piece of Star Wars lore may have revealed the origins of the Hidden Path as featured in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

The reveal of Quinlan Vos helping other Jedi survive within the Hidden Path, particularly younglings, was a major one for all Star Wars fans. Quinlan has long since been a fan-favorite Jedi, even if much of his story remains a part of Star Wars Legends rather than canon following Disney’s acquisition of the franchise. This has added more depth to his canon story, and it would no doubt make for a fascinating story – especially if he had the help of Asajj Ventress, his lover whose surprising survival was only recently revealed in Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3.

The Splintering Of The Death Watch Into Various Mandalorian Factions

This Happened At Some Point Long Before The Mandalorian

Close

Mandalorians have been at war with other groups and each other for many years, as detailed in The Clone Wars and various other Star Wars properties, but there’s one key event in this tumultuous history that has yet to be explored in depth. The Mandalorian season 2 introduced the Mandalorian faction known as the Children of the Watch, which Din Djarin and his covert belong to. According to Bo-Katan Kryze and the Armorer, this group follows the ancient Way of the Mand’alor and is a direct offshoot of the former Death Watch terrorist group.

This lends itself to a fascinating origin story for Din Djarin’s Mandalorian faction, but we still don’t know exactly how this all happened. The Armorer says in The Mandalorian season 3 that Death Watch “shattered into many warring factions,” an event that presumably occurred after Din Djarin had already been rescued by Death Watch – as their signature blue-colored armor and Shriek-hawk symbol were on display during his flashback in The Mandalorian season 1 finale. This seems to be a key part of Mandalorian history, which definitely makes it worth exploring in more depth.

Sabine Wren’s Initial Jedi Training With Ahsoka Tano

What Were They Up To During The Galactic Civil War?

Close

Audiences were shocked to learn in Ahsoka season 1 that Sabine Wren, the Mandalorian member of the Spectre Rebel cell in Star Wars Rebels, was the complicated Jedi Padawan of Ahsoka Tano. Having shown no previous aptitude for the Force, Sabine training as a Jedi was unheard of up until that point. The live-action spiritual sequel to Rebels would go on to show Sabine returning to her Jedi training under Ahsoka’s tutelage, but it would also hint at the fact that they had tried training before – and that it hadn’t ended well.

Given that all of this happened during the Galactic Civil War, I think this full story is an absolute necessity for Star Wars.

Little is still known about that initial period of training for Sabine, and I know I’m not the only one who’s desperate to know how things went down between Ahsoka and Sabine. Baylan Skoll hints that it had something to do with the Great Purge of Mandalore, in that Sabine felt as if Ahsoka’s lack of trust in her was the reason why her Mandalorian family ultimately perished in the tragic event on her homeworld. Given that all of this happened during the Galactic Civil War, I think this full story is an absolute necessity for Star Wars.

Commander Cody’s Fate After Going AWOL From The Empire

He Hasn’t Ended Up With Rex Yet, So Where Is He?

Close

As one of the first named clones to ever be seen on-screen, Commander Cody has long since been a fan-favorite Star Wars character, especially amongst the clone troopers. He took on an even larger role in The Clone Wars, proving why his forced betrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi during Order 66 was so heartbreaking. This made his surprise return in The Bad Batch season 2 an utter thrill as the commander teamed up with Crosshair, especially when he showed evidence of him fighting his chip and realizing just how evil the Empire was. That story ended with Cody going AWOL.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi show almost featured a brilliant cameo of and plot line for Commander Cody, and it would have been a perfect update to his story.

Three years later, however, we still don’t know what happened to Cody after that point. Surprisingly, Cody failed to appear in The Bad Batch season 3, although many fans thought that the commander would seek out his longtime friend Captain Rex. Given the fact that Cody was meant to have a role in the original scripts for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Star Wars clearly intends for Cody to survive for quite a while, but that story hasn’t yet been told. This story is one that I’ve been wanting to see for years, and I sincerely hope it gets told soon.

Captain Rex’s Clone Rebellion (& How It Leads To His Self-Imposed Exile)

How Badly Does It End For Rex To Retreat Into Solitude?

Close

Another clone with a gap in their story is Captain Rex, especially given how active he is in the fight against the Empire in The Bad Batch – a stark contrast to his self-imposed exile with Gregor and Wolffe on Sealos in Rebels. All three seasons of The Bad Batch have been building up a storyline about Rex’s clone rebellion, with clones such as Echo and Captain Howzer reinforcing his efforts. With the help of the Pantoran senator Riyo Chuchi, things seem to be heading in a positive direction by The Bad Batch season 3’s ending.

Of course, we know this can’t be the case for long, as the clone rebellion ultimately can’t be successful. Obi-Wan Kenobi largely proved this by showing a homeless clone veteran, revealing how clones were still mistreated and displaced even a full decade after the end of the Clone Wars. It also seems as if something bad has to happen for Rex to stop his fight and go into hiding on Sealos, and a failed clone rebellion would be that thing. Many fans are theorizing that this will be Star Wars’ next animated TV show, and I sure hope it is.

How Asajj Ventress Survived The Events Of Dark Disciple

Much Of Her Resurrection Remains A Mystery

Close

As mentioned above, The Bad Batch season 3 revealed that Asajj Ventress actually survived the events of the 2015 canon novel Dark Disciple by Christie Golden, though how that happened hasn’t yet been revealed. In the novel, Ventress dies protecting Quinlan Vos and turning him back to the light from the dark side after a failed assassination attempt on Count Dooku. Her return in The Bad Batch season 3 nearly a full decade later was an utter shock, and her episode in that season didn’t give away much about her resurrection.

Star Wars has hinted at telling Ventress’ story in future projects, which means this will eventually be a story that’s completed, but as of right now, we have no idea what the future plans are for this beloved Clone Wars villain-turned-antihero. All we’ve gotten so far is Ventress’ throwaway comment in The Bad Batch season 3, episode 9 “The Harbinger” about having “a few lives left,” and that’s not much to go off of at all. Ideally, her story might even tie into Quinlan Vos’ regarding the Hidden Path, something her interest in Omega and M-counts seems to indicate already.

The Stranger’s Backstory & Darth Plagueis’ Role In It All

This Sith Story Needs An Ending

Close

One story we tragically know we won’t see completed, at least not in live-action, is that of the Stranger’s backstory in The Acolyte. The canceled Star Wars TV show contained the massive reveal in its finale that Darth Plagueis is the Stranger’s current Sith master, as he’s seen hiding within Qimir’s cave dwelling. The Muun Sith is a Star Wars character that viewers have been aching to see in live-action Star Wars stories for decades, and his story is one that definitely ought to be explored in canon.

Clearly, the Stranger is an important part of this story, which makes his own backstory worth exploring, too. This is also because it seems to be closely tied to the Star Wars: The High Republic character Vernestra Rwoh, who we currently assume to be Qimir’s previous Jedi Master. Given Qimir’s comments about being thrown away by the Jedi, and the whip-like scars on his back, many assume that Vernestra is the one who kicked Qimir out of the Jedi Order. We know so little, though, and I have to know how this all happened – and the role Plagueis plays.

Omega Joining The Rebel Alliance & Fighting In The Galactic Civil War

She Would Be A Key Character To Follow During The Galactic Civil War

Close

The ending of The Bad Batch season 3 is immensely bittersweet, as it sees Clone Force 99 – all except Tech, who heroically gave his life in The Bad Batch season 2’s ending to save the rest of them – settling down on Pabu to live out their days as a family instead of soldiers. The epilogue jumps many years ahead, with Hunter seeing Omega off to her new mission: piloting for the Rebel Alliance. All the heartfelt, full-circle, and tear-jerking moments of this epilogue aside, it feels like a clear setup for a future Star Wars series.

There’s no doubt that her story as a part of the Rebellion during the Galactic Civil War is something Star Wars absolutely has to explore.

This wouldn’t be the first time Star Wars has used an epilogue to launch a new story, either. Ahsoka is based entirely on the epilogue of Rebels, with that same exact scene between Ahsoka and Sabine even being recreated in the live-action series. Omega is a beloved Star Wars character, and she’s been raised and trained by some of the Galactic Republic’s most capable commandos. There’s no doubt that her story as a part of the Rebellion during the Galactic Civil War is something Star Wars absolutely has to explore.

The Full Story Of The Great Purge Of Mandalore

We Need To Actually See How It All Happened

Close

The untold Star Wars story I’ve been waiting to see completed for over half a decade is that of the Great Purge of Mandalore. First mentioned in The Mandalorian season 1, we still know surprisingly little about the event that nearly made the Mandalorians go extinct. The Mandalorian season 3 revealed the most we’ve learned to date, but we still have yet to get even a clear timeline of this event, and we have yet to see any actual scenes from this tragedy – aside from a brief flashback in The Book of Boba Fett.

Given how pivotal the Great Purge of Mandalore is to The Mandalorian, which has become Star Wars’ most successful property in many years, this untold story absolutely has to be completed in the future. It’s still not clear exactly how Bo-Katan and other Mandalorians were able to get out alive, nor is it explained why Din Djarin’s faction and any others who lived on Concordia didn’t join in the fight for their homeworld. All of this could be explained by Star Wars in an excellent story, and it’s one we desperately need to see.
