The story follows Arthur as he teams up with his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) to stop the villain Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Black Manta wants to use the dangerous Trident to cause trouble while they search for the lost underwater kingdom.

Jason Momoa came up with the story for the sequel while working on the first film. Director James Wan spent a lot of time developing the sequel. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick wrote the script and filming took place in various locations, including the United Kingdom, Hawaii, Los Angeles, and New Jersey. The film will premiere on December 19, 2023, and will be released in the United States on December 22. However, it did not receive positive reviews from critics.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom ending explained

At the end of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the film marks the end of Aquaman’s journey in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The main storyline revolves around Aquaman’s battle with his revenge-seeking nemesis Black Manta. Black Manta’s mission involves finding the powerful Trident and breaking the curse on an ancient civilization.

The climax is when Aquaman saves his son and defeats Black Manta, finally stopping the villain’s evil plan. Despite the chaos, Black Manta refuses Aquaman’s help and falls into the abyss, likely to his death. At the end of the film, Aquaman decides to reveal the existence of Atlantis to the surface world and promote the connection between underwater civilization and human civilization. Although the DCEU is set to reboot in 2024, this choice sets the stage for potential future stories.
