Ark Survival Ascended Non Dedicated Server Tether Distance

Tether distance in Ark Survival Improvement

Tether distance in Ark: Survival Ascension is like an invisible border that determines how far away from the game runner you and your friends can be. If this boundary is set larger, it means you can explore further away from the person in charge.

The reason for this boundary is that games can be very demanding on your computer or console. When you and your friends are on a non-dedicated server away from the person running the game, the game has to load more content on the map, which puts additional stress on your hardware and makes the game run less smoothly.

NEWSTARS Education brings you the pulse of the gaming world so you can stay updated and enhance your gaming experience. Our platform empowers you to become the best gamer you can be.

Ark Survival increases tether distance on non-dedicated servers

In Ark: Survival Ascend, Tether Distance acts like an invisible rope that limits the distance between you and your friends and the player hosting the game. If you want to change this distance, you can make it longer so you can explore more or shorter distances to help the game run better.

Here’s how to do it:

  • If you are playing on a private server with friends, go to the “Console/Local” option in the game’s main menu.

  • Find the “General” tab.

  • You will see a setting called “Non-dedicated host tether distance”. You can adjust it by moving the slider or entering a number. Lower numbers mean shorter tether distances, higher numbers mean longer distances.

If you use a dedicated server, you don’t need to worry about this as there are no connection distance restrictions. This only applies to non-dedicated servers.

Unfortunately, you can’t completely eliminate tether distance, but you can make it almost disappear by entering a very large number (like 100 or 999) instead of using the slider. This makes it feel like there’s no tether distance at all, allowing you to explore more freely.
